Definitely needs a loan based on last nights showing. Only a young lad and plenty of time to improve before he's expected to challenge for a spot at Chelsea but looked incredibly nervous with the ball at the back.

Agreed. Was really looking forward to seeing him perform as have heard such good things about Slonina but he didn't really have any saves to make. As you say though - he looked very nervy with the ball at his feet and if that were in PL matches, it would give me the sort of jitters I had every time Mendy had the ball at his feet!

I thought he actually settled in a bit later on, didnt seem to be as nervous with the ball at least. Shame we didnt really get to see any decent shots on target for him.

Won 3-1. Did not have much to do.

The goal he conceded was a penalty kick.  So not his fault. Had some good positioning.

Misjudged one cross where he went under the ball. The opposition scored from there, however the goal got disallowed for close ooffside.A bit lucky here.

Eupen who are one of the biggest candidates to relegate are surprisingly high ranked on the table after 4 games atm.

Good on them!

Hang on. He was playing in MLS and in the first division of Belguim, we have spent 10m on him and the best offer he got was to play in league one which is a lower standard that was he is used to?

I know for keepers just playing is more important but would have thought he could have got a team in the championship.

All the teams in the Championship already have a Chelsea loanee goalkeeper.

That is what is going to happen to Mike Penders next season also. Expect a lot of players to be loaned out to random teams this season.

That's the issue with GK on loan, every team could only play one, and why would they risk it on a kid ( unless he's already a proven GK), when they already have at least an older and trusted GK in their team? League one may not be that bad if he's starting every week, whether that makes him into a 20M GK a year later is beyond anyone's guess

This is the problem I was highlighting earlier with us stockpiling this many youth players.

Some of them are going to have to be sent out on loan to a level below them as we only have a limited amount of foreign loans we can use.

Exactly. And a bad loan can actually adversely affect their careers and reduce possible resale value. Great example being Santos who was highly regarded a year ago and now looks unlikely to make it here. Hopefully he can bounce back with a successful loan. But with all our injuries last season he might have developed much better if he had been able to stay with the first team.

Having a quick read on the Barnsley forum after their 7-0 capitulation at Old Trafford last night.

Slonina seems to be having a tough time and at fault for a few goals recently. Even saw a comment "belongs in a University team". And another comment  "He's the worst GK we've had in a long time."  Hmmm ... seems even League One is too much for him at this point ... 😞

Mental he’s still here. Waste of a season.

This Chelsea move is probably the worst thing to have happened to his career. Highly rated when we bought him at 18yrs, loaned him out to one of the worst teams in the Belgian league. Got relegated; came back and we sent him out on loan to a League 1 team. He is now 21 and just hanging out around Cobham with no clear career path, which is crazy when you consider we paid £7m for an MLS teenager.

This lad was touted as the best young American keeper a few seasons back. Just wandering about in Cobham now.

Maybe he goes to Strasbourg when Mike Penders returns. We probably need him as 3rd choice now that Bettinelli has gone, injuries to Sanchez or Jorg and hes needed on the bench.
