Captains England under 19's tonight, hugely talented young player who will likely be the next one sold as he won't get game time here.

Flash of optimism there @dkw, I like it :JC_doubleup:

Maybe another sale to @Munkworth favorite side?

If thar brought JWP the other way...lol.

I miss the days of us having a free kick taker you could count on to deliver goals regularly. Hasselbaink, Zola, Drogba, Lebouf, Alex etc etc.

Now we have Alonso and his one hit a season.

He played as a LWB apparently, not great that he’s getting played out of position at that level.

He played left wing, well in the bits I saw he did but I missed most of the 2nd half so might have ended up at wing back.

A mate of mine watched it to see how Ronnie Edwards played so I asked how Vale played, he said he was at LWB, had some nice touches but wasn’t really challenged

What is it with all these managers who feel compelled to show "how clever they are" by playing square pegs in round holes all the time ?

I like the idea of him coming through as understudy LWB.

Championship loan. Then either in the squad or a PL loan. That's worked for multiple players now

A player I can see making it in the Prem should he improve his physicality.

I'm not sure physicality will be a problem,  he's a decent size and coped in the game against Brentford really well. He should have been given time ahead of the likes of Saul, Barkley etc last season.

Physicality for the Prem is a myth imo, so long as you're technically good enough. David Silva was one of the best players in the league for a decade with zero physical presence.

Absolutely nothing wrong with Harvey Vale having to prove himself in the Championship before he can hope for any time of the pitch here. That's the path they need to take and the path all of our brightest talents have had to take lately.

And when it's done right, it works. I'd be curious to see how different CHO would be if he followed that path.

Problem has been in the past that we have sent those players out on loan and signed average but expensive players like Emerson to cover these positions. Then when youth players have returned looking for some first team football, they have often found their path to first team blocked by these squad players, and have decided to move on.

Bang on, last season we let Gilmour and Gallagher go out on loan and replaced them with a Spaniard on loan that had almost zero impact.

Now in Gallaghers case especially he had a fantastic season and has earned a place in our team, but if he doesn't get that game time then he will want to leave very quickly.

To be honest, although it didn't quite work out I'm fairly happy with Saul's loan just because it was a loan. I don't mind if we keep using loans to fill in the squad. Gotta learn a thing or two with the Italians. 😅

We could've easily been short sighted and bought him or someone else to fill in for G&G and then we'd be stuck with that player for years trying to get rid of him. Whilst Saul "contributed" for a year and now Gallagher developed and is ready for 1st team.

Indeed. The other option could have been that Gallagher stayed at got Sauls minutes but Gallagher would likely have stagnated then and perhaps never have developed into a player that looked ready for our first team as he does now. At his and Gilmours age it's far more important to play week in, week out and develop that way instead of being back-up with us.

Unfortunately it didn't work out in Gilmours case but it very much did with Gallagher.

Seeing how the hammers are crying over losing Perkins is hilarious..  mid table clubs do it all the time so it is a bit hillaruous to see this.. we lost livraminto to Southampton Musiala too Solanki got his head turned and so on.. so a bit over the top from them

The funny thing is they poached him from Leyton Orient themselves 3 years ago.
