Is he still crap?

Rated the lowest by Kinsella last night at the Chelsea game.

Hard to judge by a pre-season game against a low tier opponent.

Personally I'd take the chance to sell him if the opportunity arrives for >25m. Doubt it'll happen though.

For me the strenghts of Cucu is his ability to press high and break up play while he also seems to have stamina to keep running - both are attributes that could be ideal under Pochettino. Still not sure it's enough to cover his complete moments of disaster in defensive decision making and positioning - not to mention mediocre marking at best.

If we decide to give him one more season to prove himself; fine. If not, oh well... also fine.

No glaring errors that I recall, but also no highlights.

Got burnt for pace a couple times in the first half, and was his usual flat-footed, risk-averse self when on the ball. Of all the players able to play LB who played last night, he looked the worst in my opinion. Chilwell was in good form, Maatsen had a great half, and Hall was solid enough.

Nobody will pay 25m for Cucu. City offered 30 m after he won brighton POTY. You can get probably 15 which is kinda the going rate for almost any player.

Biggest issue with him.

Didn't get to watch the game myself but reading a few media reports and the comments of people on here who did, it appears to be a toss-up between Cucu and Sterling.

I have seen the free header that Sterling missed.

Stirling was woeful don't get how people rate him, £350,000 per week, absolute joke.

Not that entertaining to watch but still managed a goal contribution every 193 mins (basically 1 every other game) last year in an absolutely horrible team. If we become a well oiled machine can see him getting 20+ G/A next year, do we have another winger that can manage that?

On Sterling, it's worth considering that a 28 year old who's been playing PL football for over a decade might not go into the first pre-season game of a campaign with quite the same high-energy "point to prove" mindset as a lot of the younger lads.

Wasn't a great performance from him, but he was getting into the right positions, should've scored his chance but did well to arrive at the back post for it when he did.

exactly my thoughts when i consider Sterling. He may miss a large number of chances but he's the only player in our team that would make those runs and chances. He'll make himself 2 chances and score one of them. Other players may end up being better finishes but they won't be in the positions that Sterling finds himself in so often.

Fair point.

Marmite Sterling is either going to pleasantly surprise a lot of people, or hugely disappoint a lot of people on here this season.

One thing that probably won't change is his finishing. Throughout his whole career he has always been labelled as a player who needed 4 or 5 chances to finish 1.

This video shows off everything good and bad about Sterling. Excellent at ghosting into goal scoring positions positions, but even when the odds look on to score, you just can't be sure of it with him. If Sterling is expected to be involved in the build up play this season, then he will struggle badly and it will hurt our attacking game.

Each to their own, but for what we paid and pay him, to me no way is he worth it, average at best.

"Hate"! Really? Where's that come from?

Personally I don't hate him at all. Just think he is yet another player we have paid huge money for who is past his best.

Read back over the Sterling thread. And the Kepa and Cucurella threads for more of the same. Keyboard warriors.

It’s like they just ignore the bile spewed at certain players.
Am waiting on Sterling to get booed by his own fans next!!
