Newcastle interested (Mirror) Assuming any of the rumours about Pochettino rating/not rating players (if he has any input at all) are true, he's currently up one: Positive Talent ID + Doesn't rate Félix + Doesn't rate Cucurella Negative Talent ID - Rates Kepa

June 18, 20233 yr Selling him even at a massive loss improves the quality of our side. I cannot believe how we used that much money on an average footballer. These days footballing skill seems to amount to nothing. It is all running and athletic metrics. Give me wine drinking Pirlo over these headless chickens any day of the week.

Kepa is a decent enough reactionary shot stopper but his overall skillset is not good enough. Claiming crosses / corners, positioning, long range shot stopping. Very similar to De Gea. Neither are world class.

June 20, 20233 yr It makes sense for Pochettino to prefer Chilwell + Hall given he likes his wingbacks to offer a lot in attack.
June 20, 20233 yr I see he has a new haircut. If we keep him it’s as a LCB. If we did get £30 million for him and MP wants another left back then get Tierney in. Genuine competition for Chillwell. He’s a better left back than Zinchenko and a better defender than Chillwell and can cover LCB too

July 12, 20233 yr Apparently we are exploring selling him depending how big a FFP hit we take. Newcastle, Juve and Atletico all reportedly interested.
July 12, 20233 yr Don't get me wrong he's been dreadful but seems to bit extreme to spend all that money to only give him one season? He's still fairly young so probably still get near the same price next summer regardless.

I think he's the odd man out in our group of full backs considering Pochettino likes having full backs with attacking qualities. Cucurella is also a very unbalanced defender.

Different systems obviously but he would be useful in a Ake like role with James just staying up front pretty much. Edited July 12, 20233 yr by Remodez

But who knows. Just can't wait until preseason.
July 12, 20233 yr Author He's defintely been scape goated last season. He was bad, but so was everyone else. Problem going forward, is that he's not really an out and out LB. And we have Chilwell ahead of him there, and arguably Maatsen might be better in that position. But he's not especially good at CB either. And we have other options there. So I don't know where he'd fit in. Other than just general squad cover for both positions.

He was never a £56m player and we are prepared to take the loss. We also can’t afford to have a backup fullback on £175k/w, sets a bad precedent. Deal never made any sense to me, but Tuchel isn’t here anymore.

No I meant whatever fee we get this summer is what we will likely be offered next summer anyway so might as well keep him in the hopes he comes good. I'm pretty sure the £175k quoted has performance related clauses and bonuses so I wouldn't focus too much on that personally.
