July 29, 20232 yr Just watching a recording of the Newcastle game again. Cucurella has to go out on loan if we can't sell. Seems to have nothing about him at all.

Mental Gets worse when you remember he was on £50k/w at Brighton, and somehow Boehly gave him a bump to £175k/w with zero competition. A deal could have been done at £95k/w, but somehow we are now paying 2 LBs near £400k/w.
July 31, 20232 yr A rare decent game from Cucurella yesterday i thought. One in three games error free is what we can expect based on pre season.

No. Still he was the liability. Maybe along with Casadei he looked to be the one creating more problems than solutions. He is not a defender. His brain is not wired to defend. I don't know how his brain is wired. Maybe the wires are outside his head...
July 31, 20232 yr Pochettino has had a good look at him in all 4 pre-season games so far, so I'd be surprised if he's liked what he's seen. Would he have him ahead of Hall and Maatsen, or even the left footed centre backs Colwill and Badiashile for back up left back ? I highly doubt it ...

It's going to be Cucurella + Mudryk or Chilwell + Nkunku/Sterling.
July 31, 20232 yr Well Pochettino is doing a lot I like, however I think he will regret keeping Cucurella and Sterling about, and having Kepa as number 1.

July 31, 20232 yr One of the few low points from preseason. In every game he has struggled to some degree, and we can't carry these mistakes into the season. The London is Blue podcast was also saying how frequently the bench were calling his name out to get in line with, and move with, the rest of the defensive line. Expensive issue here, but can't be to the detriment of results. As a pure leftback, I think he should be behind Hall and/or Maatsan.

He stepped up at the wrong time and a simple ball over the top let his player in behind him. On an incoming cross from the right he pulled into a centre half position, where we already had cover, leaving an opponent totally unmarked behind him who had come in from the left back area. He keeps trying to make interceptions he doesn't have to. He really is a disaster when it comes to positioning and decision making.

Being willing for your career to die and go play in Saudi for money doesn't mean you have a good attitude fwiw. I'm sure people forget that players are humans with families and lives. I doubt you'd give up your comfortable job next door to your house and uproot your family to a country with a complete different culture so your employer could save a bit of money.

Won’t be surprised if he ends up at Newcastle, they are after a LB and enquired earlier in the window. The only stumbling block is we will want our £56m back which I am not sure they are willing to pay upfront. They enquired about Livramento & put in a bid for £30m but Southampton want £50m, because of our sell on clause. I reckon Cucurella could go for £40m-£45m with the rest in add ons.

August 2, 20232 yr Surely no one is bidding more than £30m for him? Just cut our losses and get what we can.

August 2, 20232 yr Author Well Brighton valued him at what, 62m? So offer him and 40m for Caicedo. Surely they didn't overvalue him before??!
August 3, 20232 yr Another poor performance by him. Are we seriously considering having him anywhere near the team? It's going to be tough enough without a saboteur getting a game. If we can't sell him, then he must be sent to train with the academy players, although even that would be detrimental to those young players.
