It's going to be tough enough without a saboteur getting a game. If we can't sell him, then he must be sent to train with the academy players, although even that would be detrimental to those young players. Cucurella (in particular) and Sterling really need to sort themselves out. Neither are as bad as what we are seeing at the moment ... They're not exactly the greatest advocates for "experience" LOL

August 3, 20232 yr I was and still am slightly all for giving him another chance, especially after all the money spent, but I'm struggling to see where he would even play at this rate.

You're not his hairdresser are you Remodez? What difference does it make how much he cost? If a player is continually making basic errors, you don't base your assessment on how much they cost. He has had plenty of pitch time but so far he hasn't even shown enough to be a back up squad player let alone a regular starter. Edited August 3, 20232 yr by just

August 4, 20232 yr I'd try to send him out to Spain on loan. Presumably we would still have to kick in with some of his wages. Athletico Madrid looks good on paper.
August 4, 20232 yr How did he get brightons player of the year award? Damn we messed up with this one big time. 60M for a dud thats slow and sloppy. Teams are actually targeting him now and it's clear to see that he is the weak link. I feel sorry for him and want it to work out but he doesn't have the physical attributes to be a defender at all

He has had plenty of pitch time but so far he hasn't even shown enough to be a back up squad player let alone a regular starter. It's not just the money, if he had been here for a couple of years I wouldn't care about it but it's the fact he's only had one season as well. If we can get most of what we spent on him back I would sell in a heartbeat, otherwise there's no point. Might as well keep him in the hopes he somehow gets better. Not unheard of for players to turn it around after a bad season. The dilemma is I can't picture where he is going to be playing that will allow him to actually prove himself. He looks hopeless at left back and his best performances have come at CB oddly enough but we have better players there now and it's a different system. I thought he might make a passable midfielder but he looked bad there too in pre season. Pochettino has his work cut out with him.
August 4, 20232 yr I don't particularly rate cucurella - but i don't think he is as bad as some make out. I urge you to go and watch chelsea dortmund last season. High octane high stakes knock out football - and Cucu was the standout player on the pitch. He can do it. Was decent enough at Brighton. Has had a few decent games for us. We should stop with the apocalyptic negativity.
August 4, 20232 yr He should be sold, I won't mind Malo backing Ben . Cucu has been a poor signing and so prone to errors
August 4, 20232 yr Struggling to understand how he was Brighton's best player at one point. And Man City were genuinely interested in him. I never watched him at Brighton so I've no idea what they saw in him. I see him have good games and want to give him benefit of the doubt, but how many games before it's a concern how poor he is. Lewis Hall has looked far better.

August 5, 20232 yr Cucurella problem has nothing to do with last season being his first year here. He is a small lb who is not particularly athletic, not really a good dribbler, doesn't have good motor. He is pretty good passer though. So you have a player who can only play a very specific role in very specific system. (inverted /defensive fb in defensive possesion team (does this remind of your certain team? Tuchel's Chelsea n Potter's brighton.) He is just a specialist. He is a bit similar to alonso, not in term of profile but alonso is also a specific lb/wb. It is not a problem signing this kind of player, you want to meet your manager demand. Just don't spend 60m. Edited August 5, 20232 yr by Bob stark

August 5, 20232 yr I think he has the physical attributes to be a decent left back but he can't read the game properly. He over commits on a regular basis and just makes bad decisions. Can you teach him to be smarter? Maybe not but the price tag dictates we give him more time, but not on the pitch. He needs to learn his performance levels are nowhere near acceptable and he needs to get his head right. He also needs a haircut.
