The board? It's some random Chelsea twitter page that didn't even post a source to back it up. I can't see us hiring a manager on that money for 5 years without a clause. Our owners might be cash happy but I don't think they're that stupid.

My guess is there's a performance related clause in his contract, but won't kick in until the end of the season. It be a complete failure from Boehly or his lawyers if they dont have a clause to get out

What I worry about is this club lowering the standards to accomodate Potter instead of the other way around. We've clearly already done that but what happens if Potter eventually fails completely? Will we then see a standard shift all of a sudden or will whoever replaces him also get all this time to get things right? I think that's a valid question because if Potter hypothetically screws up next season as well then what are the goals for the next manager? The way we are giving Potter time one would presume he'd then get time to start another rebuild as the first one failed and then he'll need several transfer window, pre-seasons etc too so before we know it we are a Europa League side every year.

I don't think so, I think standards have been so much lower because Potter is seen as a likeable guy. Look how toxic the atmosphere was under Sarri in comparison, when we were comfortably top 4. If Sarri has us 10th by April there would have been a pitch invasion

Standards have dropped because there seems to be an acceptance of mediocrity before rise, with Arteta continuing to be the benchmark. It's created the amount of excuses English Journalists have given Potter time and time again. First it was the injuries, new players needing to gel, squad being too inflated, him not having a preseason, players causing individual errors (despite them being a indirect result of Potter's in game management) etc. 

We have a very tough fixture list coming up, and for me its a win/win situation as we will truly know if Potter is the man he thinks he is.

Great point about Arteta. Though the media seem to forget Arsenal finished 8th the year before Arteta took over, he was starting from a bad place.

They didn't, they finished 5th and got to the Europa final.

Even factoring in the FA Cup win they objectively regressed under Arteta in almost every metric up to around half way through last season.

And yet were still in the last 8 in the CL, on the verge of the semis, if Potter defeats RM and then City/Bayern i would say standards have been raised, try waiting a little bit longer before absolutely making your mind up.

Yeah I stand corrected. Though they were 10th nearly halfway through the season when Emery was sacked, so they definitely were in a worse position than we were in September when Tuchel got sacked

The squad being inflated has to be the biggest load of crap when it comes to excuses. Ranieri had this same issue in 2003 and we finished 2nd in the league.

You could argue that Ranieri had it even harder seeing as he had 10 new outfield players to integrate into the club in the summer window, plus he lost Zola, and he had an owner who expected instant results.

Will be interesting to see if Anthony Barry leaving the club will have an impact. On his way to Bayern but already been told not to report to work at Cobham anymore so he's done here. As far as I know he ran a lot of the training sessions and of course had a lot of knowledge about how we played 3-4-3 under Tuchel which I assume was useful when we've been trying to go back to that for the last 3-4 games.
