Moises Caicedo to Chelsea! "Official"

Maybe so, but slapping an extra 11 million on top of an already inflated asking price seems over eager to me. Why didnt the scouse fkrs outbid us with something between 101 and 105 seeing as it would have had the same effect, 11 million on top of an asking price is throwing money around.

To get us out of the equation. We had an advantage with the player, having been on him all summer, so they wanted to eliminate us by bidding an amount where we might not immediately just equal the bid and present themselves to Caicedo as his only option to leave Brighton.

It's why I couldn't subscribe to the "we bid £100m and we could have got him if we just did that in June" theory.

Had we bid that at an early stage Bloom would have 100% raised the price.

This is a good point.

Ornstein and some others said, early, that "Brighton wants £100m". But that was just assumptions. From previous negotiations, such as the Ben White to Arsenal-one, we know Brighton's modus operandi in transfer sales: there is no fee. You put a bid in, Tony Bloom nods or shakes his head. You put another bid in... same thing.

If you had started on £100m, he would have smiled and shook his head. It was sensible to start at a lower fee despite knowing you'd never get him for £65m or whatever the first bid was.

I do think, however, that you could probably have gotten him a little bit cheaper than you'll get him now if you had hurried up a bit and tried the £100m bid a couple of weeks ago.

Partially because of this, I think a "Chelsea-Brighton conspiracy" is more likely than the "Liverpool-Brighton conspiracy" some are speculating about. Not only because Paul Barber and Todd Boehly are really close, but also because Chelsea get to beat a big 6 rival to a signing while being able to pay up above £100m without looking completely mugged. The whole thing is a great PR success for Chelsea and Brighton, and utterly sh*t for Liverpool. Most likely there's no conspiracy at all, but to me there is no f**king way Klopp (and his club) secretly agreed with Brighton to look like idiots just to make Chelsea spend another £15-20m.

It’s always puzzled me why fans worry about the financial side of deals the club is making, it’s a billionaires playground. The only prerequisite should be how good is the player, not how much they cost. Brighton are doing very well financially, but will they spend the profits on advancing the club ?

Because signing 100m player come with much bigger risk.

Let's say we signed Kepa for 25 m. There is no chance Kepa is still here.

Couldn’t agree more .. a lot of reports from pool  journos and you tubers.. talking about FFP concerns for Chelsea in doing this deal.

Yes it seems strange that Chalobah is suddenly available for just £22m. Hope we don't have a hold up while we try to sell Trev.

Because of FFP. The more we overpay for Caicedo, the less we can spend on future transfers in areas of need and the more likely we would have to sell someone we dont want to sell to comply

If that were the case then why have we been happily spending £15m, £20m, £25m+ on a bunch of youngsters to loan to Strasbourg? Why are we still in for Lavia, Olise? FFP will have nothing to do with it in the short term I suspect.

In any case Man City have over 100 FFP irregularities and nothing at all has happened to them.

Like I said I just want it to be done now.. I ain’t an FFP expert.. spirit wise I don’t think it achieved what it was brought in to do either.. the longer it goes on the more at risk so want it to be done that’s all.

I completely agree. I think all clubs involved in this and tired of it. Complete it and let's move forward.

Sign a player for 15-20m and Strasbourg give us 3-4m to loan him for the season. They are then free according to FFP.

We then sell them for 10-50m over the next 2/3 seasons and generate a profit overall.

Sign Caicedo for 110m and he's costing us 22m a year. It's a big weight around our books. Enzo is only 15m a year.

I certainly have an uneasy feeling as well the longer this goes on.

This isnt necessarily true. Loan fee would have to be equal to or larger than the ffp book value.

Not too concerned about ffp tbh.

£22m a year is a lot, but we are paying that for Kepa if you count his wages too.

I wasnt happy yesterday morning when it was heading the other way, it wouldve been an awful way to lose a top target. Thankfully it seems the club have got their priorities straight and we will sacrifice Adams and potentially that Washington to get this deal, and maybe even Lavia over the line.

Craziest 72 hours of transfer news and it's still not even completed. Just about to head the airport, hopefully Caicedo is done by the time I land so I can relax on holiday.😂

The City case isn't finished, no one knows yet what the outcome will be.

Yes, you are correct. It is not our money and so why should we care?

That said, you have been to the ground or watched on the telly, and the away fans sing "what a waste of money" [and sometimes the home fans] and it is embarrassing, it feels personal and it feels like a failure.

Or even if the player is a success, then the criticism is that you bought that success and therefore it is different to the hand-crafted artisanal success of a genuine and authentic team comprising homegrown talent and players bought shrewdly.

That said, Capitalism is mostly bollocks, our teams are not owned by our community and So we just like to watch players who are putting in the effort and trying hard and playing with some pride and passion and hopefully achieving success.  And as long as Moises Caicedo [IF he joins us] can do that and not be a 'mercenary' etc, yeah we should just be happy. . . .innit.

But we can and DO get rid of 100m+ players who fail, even after one season…….

On the brightside its been good to see this huge demonstration of caicedos belief in our club and loyalty to his word. Im not thrilled about the fee we are going to need to pay these brighton arseholes, but i feel after his huge public show of loyalty to us, we really need to do whatever it takes to complete this now.

He's proper Chels?

I would assume that Strasbourg will be giving us FFP book value. Or at least very close to it. Which is 3-4m

Kepa is actually 10m+wages. Enzo is 15m+wages. Lukaku is 20m+wages.

Caicedo at 22m+wages is the biggest book value we'd have.

I say it every year but I just want this all to be over and to crack on with the season. Gutted this window still has another couple of weeks to go
