Reckon we'd be very smart should we get both Caicedo and Lavia and we'd completely transform the most important area on the pitch. Albeit for a hefty price. But who cares?! Madrid have been doing it since forever, City and PSG don't care either. FFP is a joke and the moment big clubs will be punished, the Super League will kick off and UEFA know it.

Ah ffs, I have just realised. After getting all excited about this deal being agreed, we have forgotten that our lot will try to introduced klarna terms, 10 years interest free credit. This can still fall apart even if we get it all agreed.

There is another important factor, it’s about player pull. Madrid, Barca attract the best players over the last couple of decades at least. Liverpool offer a British record transfer and the player doesn’t want to go and we get him anyway. To top it off we also take their DM summer target.

This is a big club wake up call. Don’t try and complete, we sign who we want. Why? Because the best PL players want to play for Chelsea.

I mean, given that Arsenal paid a £100m for a glorified version of Gareth Barry... £115m to get the next Kante/Makelele (but with the playmaking and ball carrying of Edgar Davids) for the next 10-15 years really isn't a bad deal, all things considered. The only thing that could stop him is injuries, and he doesn't seem very prone to those although you never know what a year or two in Chelsea could change in that regard.

I feel it will be ignorant to be surprised at what happened yesterday. Brighton were greedy, but again we should not gone so high for this player before now. 

He's worth it. This is why we have decided to use this transfer strategy this summer. Many clubs don't want to sell players to us, we've anticipated this, but we've made sure that Caicedo wants to join us. Whatever any club wants to do about Caicedo, we have made sure he wants us. 

Liverpool may just try, but he wants Chelsea. There is nothing Brighton can do about it.

Liverpool have not removed their bid for Caicedo. Chelsea want the bid removed, as Caicedo has made it clear he wants to join Chelsea & then Chelsea won’t have to go above Liverpool’s bid.

The part of your post I have bolded, if that's true, that is a very, very dangerous game to play. If we continue to dither, and this drags on much longer, there is nothing stopping Caicedo changing his mind about going to Liverpool. What's to say he might not view it as disrespectful that we are not prepared to match their offer? I bet his agent will be whispering in his ear.

Personally I wouldn't pay £100 million for Caicedo the same as I wouldn't have paid £100 million for Rice. However, if Boehly, Egbalhi and Pochettino really want him stop dicking around, pay what Brighton want, and get it done.

 

Is kind of funny that "the biggest club in the country" announce a British record transfer fee and the player turns them down preferring to join us, who finished 12th last time around. Must remember to put it that way when I next talk to some Liverpool fans

Two seasons ago he helped a team with the 19th highest payroll in the PL to a 9th position and last season took the team with the 18-20th highest payroll to a 6th place in the league.

Strangely, the largest change happened in attack. GP's Brighton were struggling for a long while to score goals but once Caicedo entered the team, the boys started to score for fun and this has remained the case when RDZ took over.

While not producing many goals or assist himself, his ability to either win the ball or receive a pass from defenders, turn around - even when heavily pressured - and find the opening pass or the most sensible solution... it is certainly something extra. The boy retains a 100% focus/concentration throughout the game, and mistakes are incredibly rare.

I've seen better ball winners, better playmakers, better dribblers, tactically better, physically stronger... but to at the age of 21 be a 8 out of 10 in all those categories... it is unique.
