Moises Caicedo to Chelsea! "Official"

Featured Replies

The reason I vented my frustration at Caicedo yesterday was just being pissed off at how our club has been run and the transfer strategy.

Why didn't we win yesterday? 'cos we failed to score - AGAIN. And why did we fail so score? Sure, missed chances and Liverpool keeper playing well but MAINLY 'cos instead of having a DECENT striker, who CAN score goals, we decided to spunk £115M on Caicedo who plays football in a way any journeyman midfielder can.

For me, Caicedo just signifies the averageness we have come to accept.

If I'm being honest Nibs, I think you need to put the transfer fee to one side at the minute.

I know it might sound ridiculous, but even if he came on a free or if we paid 200 million it doesn't change what he did on the pitch. He definitely has shakey moments, him and Enzo both keep making shocking mistakes every now and then. But for the most part I think Caicedo has done well lately.

Frustrating I know but we do have to try and forget the price tag. It was the club that spent it. I think he had a decent game yesterday and has been improving. Probably £60/£70M was more the price.

To my eye they make shocking mistakes every game. The pair of them are useless at passing and Caicedo is a walking disaster waiting to happen. I don’t see what he brings to the game. Granted he has settled a bit better recently but he contributes nothing to any game Ive watched and gets caught in possession far too often directly resulting in goal chances for the opposition. If I could sun up his Chelsea performances so far I’d say his debut cameo against West Ham is spot on. He hasn’t improved much since that.

Disagree there, I think their defensive side of the game needs to improve, but their passing has been pretty good tbh. Enzo's final ball last night wasn't there unfortunately, but if you watch most of our attacks from yesterday it started with them two. Caicedo's passing especially I think goes unnoticed, he usually finds Gusto really well.

I don't disagree. I think he has received a lot of undue criticism and the important role he plays in breaking up the opposition's momentum is often missed.

But, his timing, upon occasion, is really poor. He will undoubtedly come a cropper soon and will be sent off on a fairly regular basis. Its already the part of his game that the pundits zone in on immediately.

The 31 year old Endo playing his first season for Liverpool managed to have 4 tackles in the cup final, the same amount as Caicedo.

Endo was signed for 20m Euros. There is no significant difference on the pitch between the two. Someone has to answer for our players being so underwhelming.

The significant difference is one is managed by one of the best managers of his generation and the other is managed by a clueless Spurs reject.

Actually the significant difference is that the data point is wrong.

Never mind LOL ... I'm sure you'll find something else to blame on our manager very soon !

Not claiming to know a lot about Endo, but he's clearly an experienced player in Europe and captained the national side. It's the type of low risk signing for Klopp, and no real pressure on the player. I don't think anyone will write a headline if he gives away a PK ( don't believe he has), 120M star signing is a different story when comes to poor performance ( and rightly so) .  It's the type of signing we should be making especially with such a young team, of course we wouldn't under the current ownership.

I feel like Caicedo had way more than 4 tackles.

FBref shows he had 4 tackles won:

Squawka has him on a single tackle after the first half:

They also have Endo with 6 tackles in total and 12 duels won:

And there is also this:

Tough.

I just.

I can’t.

TBF Enzo and Caicedo had just ran for 90 minutes against one of the most energetic teams in the world, while the Liverpool kids were coming on completely fresh against tired legs and quite clearly Liverpool dominated the ball in extra time. Not really surprising.

And I suspect this is why he brought Chalobah on to try and clear the crosses in the last minutes as Liverpool pressed for the winner as he had no other midfielders on the bench.

We overpaid, simple as. Caicedo is not a bad player and he will improve. But to pay over 100m for a player will one good season under his belt is shocking foresight to say the least. For over 100m you are expecting a player to come in and dominate, he doesn't do that unfortunately.

Our scouting has been less than ideal the past years.

Don't worry, haven't you heard? Pochettino is improving our players.... :face_palm:

I think what a lot of people are failing to accept and acknowledge is that Klopp is arguably the 2nd best manager in the world right now and has been for some time. One of his main strengths, alongside being good tactically, is what he gets out of players. For the most part, players that have gone to liverpool in recent years have hit the heights you would expect, if not gone further. f**k, he made Henderson look good for a period of time. Nunez is the first one I can think of to get stick as being a flop and even his numbers recently stand up to scrutiny.

Comparing Caicedo to Endo and McAllistar now might make it seem like we got the sh*te end of the deal. Lets see at the end of next year. I truly believe that Klopp and his system is that good, that there are going to be a good chunk of players that are widely regarded as great buys for them right now, that will end up dropping off.

Yes Caicedo could be doing more and Poch should be getting more out of him, but its not a fair and equal comparison with any Liverpool player right now. In the same way that some of the players that Mourinho (particularly in his second stint) and Conte got some pretty average players to be big parts of a title winning squad. Victor Moses is a name that springs to mind.

We had Mourinho when he was the best, Conte when he was one of the best. Poch simply isn't one of the best right now. I think hes doing an okay job at bringing the players to a better level than last year, but he hasn't transformed anyone into a world beater in the way that Klopp seems to get players going.

Then maybe Poch should stop comparing himself and situation to Klopp and Pep?
