It's simple. We are waiting for Brighton to honour their promise to him, they are waiting for us to cave. Game of chicken.

Until Liverpool get the Henderson and Fabinho money and come in with 85m flat in one payment and its a done deal under our noses. Oh and by then probably targets B and C, if there any, have already gone.

I would still rather have Joao Palhinha

Can't see Liverpool going for both Caicedo & Lavia. I think Chelsea know this

To re-cap:  He is a good player. We have agreed personal terms with him and his agent. The fee is the issue. Chelsea and me and most of the world feel that 75 million quid is more than reasonable. Brighton want 100 million quid. Sweet baby Jebus!

Are you really quoting yourself? YES

Are you saying the deal is already done and that they are just agreeing upon the final price? YES

It truly is fascinating how we have become harsher with incoming negotiations as our needs for players has grown.

Seems like 12 months ago when our squad was full to the brim that we couldn't wait to pay an asking price. Now we've got needs across the pitch we're watching the pennies.

Not saying we are wrong to do so, but just another interesting impact of our turbulent last 12 months or so.

Perhaps a little harsh and leaves us short of real depth, but I’d be tempted to sell Gallagher to Newcastle or West Ham to get the funds for Caceido and one other. I think Santos can stay this season, and Casadei we shall see (he was awesome last night).

Gallagher is always going to benefit from being adaptable. He could theoretically do a job in any central position (although if he ended up as a lone DM we'd be in trouble) and also be adaptable as a wide forward if we got desperate. I agree he could be useful funds for Caceido and another, but we'd potentially need someone equally adaptable.

I am kind of with @PhilH930 here. Think he is at or close to his ceiling. Just doesn't have the close control and play in tight spaces which is so important at the very top level. I think a decent top half side could suit him very well, but i just can't see it for a top 4 or European trophy chasing side, whcih we all hope we return to

Even Kessie is not a bad option as a pure DM. He is strong and skilfull on the ball although not quite young. Whether he would leave Barca is another matter entirely

I agree. Given some of the younger players with potential we have in midfield, a more experienced player like Kessie would provide good balance. Plus he would probably be available at a fraction of the price of Caicedo

Brighton will not back down from the £100 million and we would be wise not to pay it.

I suspect if Todd was still in charge we would be paying it but the new guys have said nah that’s that how we work anymore!!

We have Santos and Casadei, we don't need to overpay.

Brighton continue to insist Caicedo is worth at least as much as Declan Rice and expect over 100mill for him UNLESS we trade Colwill to them as part of the deal.

They must care what the player wants. The only question is whether if they keep him, he will changes his mind and be motivated. We saw ourselves last season the damage unmotivated players do. They feign injuries etc. The call Brighton have to make is does he really mean it.

Apparently Brighton bought this guy for £5m... circa 2021 and last season was the first he'd played... now worth £100m.

We should forget this guy.

What we should buy are the staff that find players like Caicedo sign them up for peanuts and then flog them to clubs like Chelsea for a fortune - they're the one's we need!

We’ve done that with countless players already. Santos, Paez, Angelo, Casadei, etc

Who is this Pys? Seems well informed.

He’s just a faceless twitter page reposting news that journos are reporting

I think it's also the reflection on de Zerbi. I think de Zerbi is an ambitious manager that is going places and part of his appeal, like Pochettino, is his intensity and man management skills. Having given assurances to Caceido and MacAllister if they stayed last season and made this public, he may well take a dim view to the damage this could cause to his reputation.

I can quite easily see de Zerbi not lasting long ar Brighton and moving on to a much bigger club. Is it really worth them risking their whole programme unravelling for the sake of about 15m, as I do think we'll go to 85m

Normally I feel if a player signs a contract there is an obligation on the player to honour it. But if there was a handshake on being allowed to move it’s different.
