Fair point. I suspect if we have any luck for Marquinhos they'll insist that we take Neymar as well.

July 22, 20232 yr One thing to note. Liverpool are favourites to sign Lavia. They need to sign him. They haven't done it yet. That story isn't being talked about every single day but it's no different to us looking to sign Caicedo. I do expect we end up going 85m+10m in add ons and getting it done

We need to get Pochettino his targets early so he can work with them. Arsenal and Man Utd are getting their work done early.

Caicedo is the only player pending for us, United only just signed their keeper and haven't got their striker yet My point is, sometimes transfers take time. What's annoying here is there's just a lot of noise that is unnecessary.

They have got Mount and Onana in with time to bed them in during pre season. Arsenal similarly have got Havertz and Rice and now Timber bedded in. I don't want this Caceido soap opera dragging on like Kounde did last summer. We need cover for Fofana (Tapsoba maybe, or the like), we need some midfielders and, personally I think we need a little bit of experience and know how in the group.
July 22, 20232 yr I used to think it was better to get the transfers done early but in this case it’s good the young guns can run the warmup and maybe upstage the main act v Edited July 22, 20232 yr by ozboy

We needed to sell our deadwood, sign a striker, a right back, a number 10 and a midfielder. We've done 4/5 of those. We now maybe need a defender, which couldn't be planned for, Edited July 22, 20232 yr by bisright1
July 22, 20232 yr We signed around 8 players... Yes many dont have experience and are young but I feel the direction is positive. Be patient guys caicedo will be a chelsea player its just a matter of time.
July 22, 20232 yr Agree on the patience. I sense this is just more pressing as we are really light in the midfield. I’d still try and move Gallagher on also, although there is a timing aspect to that. Imagine that sale opened the door for both Caceido and Tchouameni, although that might be an embarrassment of riches in a 4-2-3-1 assuming Santos is in squad and Enzo is a given. Saying that, I don’t think Tchouaméni is going anywhere. He’s part of their current and future along with players like Vini Jnr Edited July 22, 20232 yr by PhilH930
July 22, 20232 yr Caicedo and his camp are taking the piss really. If they want to leave then they need to get involved. No more of this "We are disappointed" whilst sitting on the sidelines. Put in a transfer requested.
July 22, 20232 yr Eghbali now going to get involved. Tbh last time this happened we signed Enzo 5 minutes later.

July 22, 20232 yr All these small clubs who try and get too big for their boots against us normally suffer after, Leeds, Burnley, Bournemouth etc…. Brighton will get what’s coming to them.

It's essentially why I am hoping these new signings transition and develop smoothly so we don't have to tap into the market like we've done this past 12 months.
July 22, 20232 yr Unlike others on here, I don't have the same animosity towards Brighton. Caicedo is their player, a player they signed up to their club until 2027. We are not entitled to sign him just as much as they are not entitled to sign Colwill. I said this the other day, if I was in their position, I wouldn't sell him at any price this season. They aren't desperate for cash, they will still want to compete and they have the Europa League to focus on. If they sell Caicedo, it will likely mean that this season will be very tough for them. Just look at West Ham last season, juggling Premier League and European football put them in a relegation scrap. Caicedo's price won't drop, they know that, they have no reason to sell this season. If we were banking on them selling to us, then that is our f**k up.

The sensible thing would have been to keep at least Kovacic and perhaps even RLC for one more season. That way we wouldn't be in a desperate situation in midfield right now and Brighton obviously knows that. I think we'll end up paying what they want in the end simply because we have too. See some being all heads over heels about our clearout this summer and we have done well in certain cases but draining the entire midfield before a single one of them was properly replaced was a feck up. Not even sure why we sold Kovacic, he's only 29 and has been one of our best players these past few years. 30m to a rival is extremely cheap

Their cheeky little congratulations after his U21 Euro win, the constant tapping up through their correspondents and De Zerbi's presser the other day. Zero respect.
July 22, 20232 yr When have our new owners ever walked away from a transfer? Brighton know they will pay eventually. The Enzo deal has created a precedent for all future deals. Until we start walking away from some of these transfers we will always be taken for a ride. Get used to long drawn out over priced transfer sagas.

I don't even have a problem with the tapping up stuff either. It happens in all walks of life and the players have their own minds, they aren't children. We did the same with Ashley Cole back in the day when he was unsettled at Arsenal, I didn't care then either. I rubbed it in Arsenal fans faces.
July 22, 20232 yr We need to get this done in principle as a commitment to our manager. If it takes 10-20m more then so be it.
