And what any starting midfielderon a top 4 team is worth. Yes it was a dumb agent decision but Caicedo reputation and value has grown very quickly. Even so a release clause is worth having. But the club granting it probably wants something in return, a premium for the option in financial terms. Eg a lower salary or bonus. Mac Allister was the precedent. The agreed 35m release clause was token. In fact they called it a "release mechanism", a means of letting him go. The real price was closer to 55m.
July 15, 20233 yr Author Liverpool and city coming in to some Saudi money. Let's see if this stays a 1 hours race
July 16, 20233 yr We need to wrap this one up asap, other teams are selling and raising funds that could be put to hijacking this deal. Need to get a move on and try and settle at £90m

Let's see if this stays a 1 hours race No chance it stays a 1 man race, and I reckon Bloom counted on a bidding war which has so far failed to manifest. It isn’t those two I am worried about, can’t see City getting involved as they don’t do bidding wars. They usually walk away from players once they sense the selling club is trying to start one- the Rice one is a recent example. Caicedo isn’t also a multifunctional player which Pep prefers- see Kalvin Philips struggles; though De Zerbi’s use of Caicedo as a RB might have piqued Pep’s interest especially if Walker moves to Bayern, and with Cancelo’s impending sale. For whatever reason I don’t think he is on Klopp’s list, seems he prefers Amrabat and Lavia. If he loses the experience of Fabinho & Henderson, Cancelo might pop up on his radar ahead of Lavia. It is Arsenal I am more worried about especially if they sell Partey to Saudi. They have already done the ground work in Jan, and they are not afraid to spend big money on players.
July 16, 20233 yr Already multiple reports from reliable outlets stating Arsenal have burnt bridges with Brighton and that they never agreed personal terms with Caicedo to begin with. Romano also reported Liverpool won’t enter the Caicedo race and Matt Law has reported no club have entered negotiations because the player has his mind set on Chelsea. Calma.

May well be true, However 48 hours ago every man and his dog would have said Lukaku had his mind set on Inter. Never say never.

July 16, 20233 yr Author Deal has not moved much from the starting point. We want to pay a package of 80mill, including add ons, split over 3 summer window payments. Brighton want the majority of the money paid up front in one installment plus add ons OR for us to pay a package of 120mill, including add ons, over 3 summer window payments. Neither side has budged from this position, leading to growing frustration from Caicedos camp.

Probably best we move on soon enough
July 16, 20233 yr Him and Rice are arguably on the same level and I think Caicedo is a lot better than Rice was at the same age. I would be really annoyed if we lose out on him to another team tbh. Hope we get it over the line.
July 16, 20233 yr Why do we do this sh*t every year. Pick a player and spend months faffing around. Either pay the obscene amount Brighton want, or move on.
July 16, 20233 yr If I was in Brighton's position, I wouldn't sell him at any price. It's not like they are under any pressure to do it, he's under contract with them until 2027. It's highly unlikely his value will dip next season and after the season they just had, they should feel ambitious enough to improve on it. Why bother competing at all if you're just going to sell all of your best players? They will end up like Southampton if they do that. Edited July 16, 20233 yr by Scott Harris

Well, even if some Chelsea fans feel they don't deserve any honour, there are some players out there who feel Chelsea are a great club, and they want to play for Chelsea. Caicedo loves Chelsea and he wants to join us. And the reason we finished 12th in the premier league last season is because some of our fans don't want us to be at the top and I don't understand why. They didn't want the players to do well last season and that affected us so much. Edited July 16, 20233 yr by hephzibah

July 16, 20233 yr With this Caicedo deal seemingly locked in stalemate over the fee, I wonder if we still have any interest in Edson Alvarez, who is recently being linked with West Ham as their Declan Rice replacement ?
July 16, 20233 yr Thought we were in for Edson Alvarez last year but it didn't materialize. His Dortmund move completely fell apart too, so I bet he must have whiplash from all the jerking around he's been getting.
July 16, 20233 yr Author Part of there stance is due to us not selling Colwill. I am sure if we offered them Colwill plus 25mill they would snap our hands off.

July 17, 20233 yr Author Brighton are losing patience with us over Caicedo. They are happy to keep him if we don't meet their price. We upped our offer to an unnamed amount from our original 70mill plus 10mill on add ons as, if we did not, Brighton threatened to walk away from talks.

I don't think Brighton really want to sell this guy to us. It's their player, so they can decide not to sell him to us. We made some money from sales of players, so I feel we would be very ready to buy this guy, so I don't think Brighton really want to sell him. If we really want to assemble a good team, we need him. Otherwise, we have to move to other targets.
