I am not a fan of our ownership, don't trust them.

However they are handling this window very well so far imo.

Surely we'd have a plan B, or even D if we are going to spend 80M+ on another CM. We need to exploit other options, no other clubs will bid 100M for Caicedo.

I am sorry but he was stupid for signing that contract extension with Brighton in January.  What did he think would happen in the summer.

His agent was stupid for not inserting a release clause as Mac Allister's agent did.

Never agreed personal terms with any club in January, and both Arsenal and Chelsea made bids for him in January.

The plan was always to buy two lads.  Lavia is still on the 'wanted list'. 

But maybe with Mbappe we shall see.  Tchoumeni and Caicedo and Enzo. Solid midfield that. Our attacking full backs could really get forward.

A lot is dependent on preseason. 

In theory, Lavia would get in the way of both Santos/Casaedi. If the latter two impress in preason, there will be no need for another CM brought in after Caicedo.

Need? What is this "need" you speak of? lol. We are Chelsea.  Oh I concur it would be too much. Santos - heard a lot of good things about him. Casaedi may have another loan season. And what about Chukwuemeka? Gallagher to stay with us?  Still a lot is going to happen.

Because at CM, only Rodri and Fabinho have better ball retention metrics in the Premier League than Caicedo. 

As important as it is to have an influence off the ball, it is equally as important on the ball. Especially in the build up phase where both CMs can be options vs Enzo alone. 

Might also be something in the story that we did, upset Rice and his family with our offer, and he ruled us out.

Ah yes much like the story Mount wanted to stay and the club were forcing him out, only for it to be revealed he rejected a 200kpw deal in favor of 250-300kpw at United, gave a scripted goodbye and within 5 minutes of entering Old Trafford he called it "Home". 

Only time we've ever seriously considered Rice was under Lampard, and even then the board didn't necessarily push for it. 

Watch Liverpool sell Fabinho & Henderson to the Saudis, and snap up both Lavia & Caicedo. We are way too slow in the market.
