No we aren't. 

For a start, I'm fairly certain that portugaese law, like Spanish law (which is better understood by people like me) doesn't actually tax you for activating a buyout clause. No reputable source has said otherwise.  It's been a lot of "I think, based on what I read in a paper which reported what another paper said"

For a second, Benfica might be stubborn, but they are in no way going to take 120m up front and force us to pay 40m in taxes rather than take 121m from us up front and we pay 0 in taxes. They are stubborn but they aren't stupid. So if we go to release clause benfica will just take whatever we offer. 

My view is what we are trying to avoid is paying it all in one lump. We maybe offered 100m now and 25m in installments. But that's to avoid the whole lump in one go which affects accounting for some reason.  

This isn't really a debate, it's just logic.

Ornstein is reporting that  medical is happening and Romano is saying there is no medical. Guess we will find out who is right. 

According to Sky Sports, Benfica still don't agree to Chelsea's proposal of payments,they want it payed up quicker, this is really dragging on,we still might not get him.

This really isn't going to happen, Chelsea and Benfica just can't get to a agreement they both like,time is ticking.I don't see Boehly winning this.

Sounds like very little has changed in the stalemate. Unless we cave in late on and agree to pay the full amount up front this looks increasingly unlikely to go through.

Its really looking like this deal is all or nothing now. Sabitzer is on his way to United and Brighton aren't selling Calceido this window. We are either getting Enzo or we leave the transfer window with an even more depleted midfield.

Don't even think Romano has a clue what's going on anymore. Probably going to have to wait until deadline day to see if we sign him or we don't

What's the point in him having the medical if we haven't met their terms?
