Approach to rest of the season

Featured Replies

So this season finally put to bed bar playing for a tiny degree of pride it's surely a chance to use the remaining games to focus on next season.

For me that means

1. Giving Fofana time up front. Start him every game.

2. Telling the agents of RLC, Kovacic, Ziyech, Chalobah, Pulisic and  Sterling to find new clubs.

3. Use Kante and Silva very sparingly. No sense in risking them.

4. Don't play Felix unless we are committed to buying him. With a balanced squad I think he has a lot to offer but if we aren't going to buy him there is no point playing him.

5. Play Mudryk. I'm not convinced by him but this is a chance to give him week in week out game time with nothing to lose.

6. Bring Hall back into first team contention. He shows promise and no sense risking Chilwell.

7. Deciding if Havertz's future is in his favoured position. If so play him there. If not, stop picking him and let him go.

8. Bring Mount back and see if the Mount of old is still there

Pretty much agree with all of this apart from Chalobah, I still think that he has plenty to offer and hope he can regain some confidence.

The current lot on 2 year deals with speculation of them leaving should be sitting out alongside those confirmed to leave. Until their agents sort out their extensions, they sit out.

Now until the end of the season should be focused on the future. Madueke, Mudryk, Fofana, Badiashile, Carney, etc should all be seeing minutes/starting.

Fully agree on your last paragraph. Missed Madueke, Badiashile and Carney from my post which was an oversight. Remaining games need to be treated as a free hit

Honestly these few games are starting to prove that Lampard was only giving the youth a chance in 2019/20 out of neccessity, not because he was that type of manager.

Complete write off sadly.

I can't see it getting any better, there's nothing really left for us to try out either. The players have completely checked out, Frank doesn't have the man management or the ability to get something out of these players (big shock).

We saw some improvements against Madrid today, but we saw some good things against Dortmund under Potter and we were still crap in the league so I'm not convinced.

My only source of enjoyment this season is hoping Arsenal bottle the league and City bottle the CL, that's it. And if neither of them things happen then I'm very sure god hates me.

It's almost a relief. There is nothing left for us competitively this season, so we can finally stop hedging our bets. Everything we do now can be in service of the future.

1. Allow any player who is carrying an injury to recover fully. We should do this for every player who needs it, regardless of whether or not we intend to keep the player after the summer, and the duration of recovery. Off the top of my head, from players we have been starting out of [perceived] necessity, this includes Silva, Kovačić, James and Sterling (possibly also Havertz). I would like to see Kanté and Azpilicueta get [sensible amounts of] game time as the youngsters on the field will need their leadership.

2. Unless we have no alternative available, any player we have no intention of keeping beyond the summer should play no further part in the season. Ideally our next permanent manager would be consulted on this. In my opinion this would definitely include (from our current squad) Kepa, Cucurella, Zakaria (for injury/availability reasons), Aubameyang, Félix and Pulisic. It could also include Koulibaly and Ziyech. They can have a Barkley-esque farewell against Newcastle if necessary.

3. Similarly to point 2, we should be giving as much game time as possible to the players we have noot been using because they are young/lacking match fitness/we're not quite sure what they're about, but who will definitely be a part of the squad next season (perhaps for cost reasons). This includes Mudryk, Madueke, D Fofana, Mendy, Mount and Chukwuemeka (and Badiashile come to think of it).

4. I assumed this would be Frank's #1 objective considering we had no real chance of actually achieving anything this season: persuade Mason Mount to sign a new contract. If he does and if he is physically capable, he should be on the pitch as often and for as long as possible.

5. Don't revert to type because we're not getting results. Every single side we are due to play in the league is currently better than we are and/or has something significant to play for. Try to summon some of the petty stubbornness that defined Chelsea sides from the past two decades (which also gave us some of our more hilarious moments, even if they didn't benefit us directly).

6. Keep the #10 shirt free for when Hudson-Odoi comes back in the summer.

I hear Pauly needs help coaching his U15 team. You offering your services?

I'm offering a copy of the yellow pages to help distinguish him from them.

For him to stand on?

Precisely.

And I'm sure he needs no help getting those kids to link arms across the edge of the six yard box anyway.

Lose every remaining game?

Frank will play the "best" players as he won't want that hanging over his head.

What I would like to see happen?

James goes for surgery to fix that recurring issue.

Silva allowed to go on early holidays, ask him if he is sure he wants to remain here as he deserves better and offer to rip up his contract if he wants to go.

Use Wesley Fofana sparingly, if he needs surgery send him for it as well.

Give Solenia the number 1.

Get Hall back in to the first team.

Play players who want to play for the shirt even of they are not the "best players".
