I hear he's looking forward to emulating his compatriots Kenedy, Wallace and Nathan at Strasbourg

Think that's the plan, if 1 out o 5 become a good first team player, we could get our investment back. The issue is these guys aren't coming in cheap, so the down payment for these young players quickly add up.

I wish these were some insane goal scoring records... but 5 goals in 129 appearances for Santos is... well, I don't know what to think of it. Sure he is young and the scouts have probably seen something that we would never but, in all probability, he'll probably go out on loan and then end up being sold.

I think that's the most likely outcome but it's not necessarily a bad one. A loan to Strasbourg, he does decent there, sell him for £25m in 2/3 years time. That's good business. 

The tactic of sweeping up top south American talent at 18 will be financially motivated rather than footballing related.

It probably will be financially motivated, yes. However, the possibility of sporting succes is always the aim I'd hope. Naturally the club will hope he develops to a first team regular - but otherwise we'd potentially be looking at getting a solid return on the investment. 

It's not exactly as if we've seen loads of Brazilian players fall through. IIRC the list only includes Piazon, Wallace and Nathan as players that never really had the level - meaning that we also got three somewhat succesful transfers in Alex, Kenedy and Oscar when looking a young players coming directly from Brazil.

I know... Kenedy might be a stretch. But he actually did quite well at first despite playing LB - and across several clubs he did manage to play +110 games across La Liga and PL while contributing to 20 goals on the way. Not really that bad IMO. Could potentially have been a squad player for us - not the worst investment though.

Oscar and Alex (Alex was bought at 22 y/o) both had great careers. For me it's been 50-50 with our investments fra Brazil - but Angelo and Andrey Santos (and potentially Matheus Franca, if the rumours are true) does indeed look like interesting young talents. 

If we manage to snap up three potential top players for a combined £40-45m that'd be decent piece of business. We're not taking the biggest talents; ie. Vinicius Juniour, Rodrygo, Endrick and Vitor Roque - but those guys also had transfer fees in the range of £35-75m each. 

For me this one seems interesting - and Ligue 1 could be a good level to test some of them at.

Possibly so, I read Forest and Fulham had put an offer in for CHO so wouldn't surprise me if Palace had too.

Pace, physicality, skill, good decision making - not convinced he needs a loan, looks ready to hit the ground running.

Agreed, i think Mudryk/Sterling on the left and Madueke/Angelo should be our wingers going into the season. Angelo certainly looked more comfortable than Moreira.

Really? He did well for the goal, other than that I didn’t really see anything from him

We didn’t have a good second half in general and he played an awkward wing back role so maybe I’m being too hard on him. 

Obviously potential there, just a question of how raw he actually is. Looking forward to seeing how he does in the upcoming friendlies vs much tougher opposition

Floated an inch perfect cross for Sterling at the back post too. Should have left the game with 2 assists really.

Guess I was too hard on him, then.

But he doesn’t have a work permit, does he? So regardless he has to go on loan?

Yeah reading its unlikely he gets it this season. Shame. Likely first one off to Strasbourg. 

I would like to see ANGELO - Angelo - get his work permit.   He is ready.

Angelo Gabriel should qualify for a work permit.

Unlike Andrey Santos who only had Brazilian second tier experience when he signed for Chelsea,

Angelo has:
 

• 4 seasons played in Brazilian top tier
• - 1 season Libertadores (2021)
• - 1 season Sudamericana (2023)
• - plus Brazil U15s, U17s, U20s

 

Obviously we've only just seen a couple of halves from him, but from the glimpses I've seen I'm surprised we've managed to pick up a player with that talent for just £15m

A wonderful talent, I believe Sterling will have to work hard in order to keep his place there on that side if that's the plan of Pochettino.
