I  always wondered why did we sack Ancelotti ....it was such a long time prospect !! witnessed some of the best football player under him at Chelsea man !!

I suspect it was mainly centered around him failing in the Champions League in the two seasons he was there.

Roman was desperate to win in Europe and was willing to make ruthless and almost seemingly unfair decisions to get there.

If I had to guess it was one of these reasons.

1. He wanted Torres (Wilkins confirmed) and set a weight around our neck that held us back for years.

2. The poor UCL showings under him.

3. The poor league season.

Roman waa desperate to win Big Ears and under Ancelotti the manner of our exits from the CL didn't exactly give the impression that he could win it with us and he seemed to be in decline in European football. It's actually surprising how successful a career he's had since leaving us. I think we wouldn't be asking this question if he had declined since and managed teams like Everton but every time he wins trophies our decision to sack him looks even dumber.

Enzo Maresca was asked about transfers on the 10th May, his response :

‘No, no, I’m not asking for more control’

‘Absolutely not. I’m asking just to be able to do my job that I’m being paid for. No more than that” (@XtraLeicester)

These new owners think that if they find the right manager, they will not need to have these type of discussions with them. Realistically, no manager wants to be handed players and told to get on with it. It doesn’t work like that.

It wasn't boring, that I recalll but in the first season there were so few goals against, the defence was incredible.

I still think the JT / Gallas pairing was the best centre-half partnership we ever had. Better than JT /  Carvalho IMO.

They just complimented each other perfectly.

“Chelsea very close to finalising five-year deal for Leicester manager Enzo Maresca to take over. Should all be finalised soon, with compensation due to Leicester.“

5-year deal. These owners and sporting directors are f**king insane.

If we are playing Sarri type football, I wonder what that means for Mydryk who doesn’t excel against low blocks. He needs space to run into.

It was only horrific cause we couldn’t score a goal to save our lives. We generally controlled games and were defensively better overall than we are now under Poch. If we had a Palmer under Potter it might have ended differently.

There’s just no way they buy all those young players and expect to win so the must want to follow that model.

I don't think it is about Palmer. It is difficult to score if you play very controlled football unless you have crazy good attacker.

You can see our offense looked far better under Lamp straight away.

Potter ran defensive 343 with Brighton, very similar to TT.  I thought the transition should be seamless but it was a mess.

I suspect he'll be on loan in the Bundesliga, tearing it up against high lines.

The positive out of all this is that McKenna has opted to stay at Ipswich. Very very sensible fella.

I still think that he will need to time the moment he steps off very carefully. His Ipswich stock is about as high as it can get. They cannot finance their own survival as they don't have the funds and FFP is restrictive.

Last season even showed the first season bounce is getting harder to recreate with all three going straight back down. The loyalty is good and if he can get to a position where they are pretty much punching their weight during the season, then a move may well be optimal for him.

As a club Ipswich need to maintain a prudent financial approach and be prepared to be a bit of a yo-yo club for the next 5 - 6 years. If they are not spending ludicrous amounts and getting PL income/parachute payments, then providing they bounce back each time they will develop a strong enough financial base to then be able to compete.

That policy won't work for the manager, so they also need to be prepared to lose McKenna when convenient for both and have a ready made, similar replacement ready to step in.

Much the same could be said about Russell Martin at Southampton who also may well be a regular PL manager of the future.

We aren't going to see the full contract so there's no point stressing about it.

There will almost certainly be exit clauses within it. I highly doubt that if we end up 7th next year we will need to pay out the full contract.

And if we are paying a 10m release clause, it means that we can amortise (urgh) that cost over 5 years and not 2.

I wish we had got this lad from Enniskillen - His style would suit us better. More flexibility. He has the capacity to change his style and the team shape.  The major problem/issue we all have with our managers in the past is there inability to change tactics and strategy [even during a game].  Stubborn managers sticking to one style of football even when it is clearly not working. Sarri, Poch, Jose, etc. All good coaches but unable to see when changes are needed and not always able to make the right subs.  Enzo is obviously a smart coach, but he does have a stubborn reputation. We shall see.

Imagine how good those 3 would be to have now all playing together in this current era of the full back going into midfield in the build up.

Would be borderline cheating.

Hi, Visiting Leicester Fan here.

Interesting to see the views you guys have on Maresca becoming your new Manager.    Very much mixed views at our end .... even we weren't sure how he'd fare in the Prem!    Yes, he got the team back together again after the shambles of relegation and yes we were flying in the first half of the season in the Championship but many of us found ourselves bored to the back teeth with the style of play and screaming at the players to get forward.  We thought Rogers was the King of Tippy Tappy but then Enzo stepped in to take his crown!  Yes he got us promoted ... just, after a disastrous run of form in the latter stages ... so we are grateful but we took a risk on the guy ourselves and would have expected a little more loyalty .... a rare commodity in football I know.

I think it says it all that, rather than alarm and complete panic at losing a manager that got us promotion, the overriding emotion is just mild disappointment smattered with a bit of irritation.

I personally liked Maresca in the most part and would have liked to see how he got on in the Prem with us.   However, his stubborn insistence on playing one way, with no obvious Plan B in matches where it obviously wasn't working (particularly in the later part of the season when more astute managers had sussed us out) , together with his seeming inability to make the right substitutions  were testing even the most ardent believers of EnzoBall.

Good luck folks, you've made some good 'smash & grabs' from us in the past ...... N'Golo being the pinnacle and a fantastic player who'll always be loved in Leicester ..... but somehow I think this one might not have the same effect.

Prepare to be bored out of your brains!!

Yeah, but he knows he will have the chance to join us the following season.

Or, even by Christmas.
