If theyre appointing a manager based on who won the EFL and got sides promoted to the PL, they could have gone with Neil Warnock, Sean Dyche, Nigel Pearson, Brian McDermmott, Nuno Santo, Mick Mcarthy, Tony Mowbray, Steve Bruce  etc. At least theyve all managed in the PL.

Ah Neil Warnock coming back would be great entertainment at least.

Positives:

-He is Italian. Chelsea and Italy has always met in a nice way.

-He is intelligent.

-He has experience relatively.

Negatives:

-Possession based rigid style is probably the least attractive football for me. It is essentially defending with the ball which is basically, in playground terms, not giving the toy to your friend to play together. It demands top skill and amazing level of discipline from the coach and the players.

-I've watched some of his interviews today. He seems a bit serious and not very charismatic. He seems the type that thinks the idea and the system is the thing. Players are tools. This is how he looks to me. Not sure if that is the reality. A bit like Arteta to be fair.

-He is pretty inexperienced on top level. It feels our club looks like he is the next Arteta in many ways. Pep's understudy.

-He doesn't excite me in any level.

Leicester are my second team so I've watched them quite a lot under Maresca.

I'm not sure I can say anything that hasn't already been said, but in summary Leicester were breathtaking at the start of the season, with Maresca's free-flowing style of play bamboozling and overwhelming the relatively low quality teams of the Championship. Once the element of surprise accompanying his system wore off however, it was startling just how easily this low quality opposition were able to frustrate Leicester and cause their effectiveness thus results to fall off a cliff.

Maresca then took an incredibly long time to adapt his tactics to overcome these issues, meaning Leicester's previous huge lead at the top of the Championship was almost completely blown. Only some slight tweaks at the very last moment saved their season.

To me, his appointment by Chelsea just feels emblematic of a wider infatuation with talent rather than proven class. He could probably be a very good manager one day, but he currently lacks the experience to have refined his skillset into that of an elite manager today.

Thanks for the summary. I didn't watch much of Leicester last season apart from their cup game against us, so it is good to get some insight from somebody who actually watched their games. I agree with your assessment about the owners looking for potential/talent over proven class. Effectively by going with an unproven manager this feels like another reboot and there is every chance we will be back in the midtable area next season, especially given the extra games from European football. My concern is that the owners have shown no inclination to give managers any time, which means that these appointments based on potential have little to no chance of success. Some comparisons have been made to Arteta since he also worked under Pep. But can you imagine our owners showing the patience that Arsenal did the first few seasons Arteta was there?

As the season progressed other clubs worked out how to play against us & we had less possession .We also struggled to win games & dropped a lot of points. For me he is a one trick pony !!

He'll have more options to work with given our squad, but of course that depends on players staying fit (unlike last couple of seasons). Arguably Pep is also a one trick pony, but he has nothing to prove, and his system almost always works.

Anyway best of luck to Leicester with the FFP challenges ahead.

They are willing to give them time.

Tuchel was sacked for non footballing reasons, Potter was sacked far later than he should of been, and they wanted to continue with Poch but failed to see eye to eye in how much involvement he should have.

The issue is this exasperating conflict between manager and sporting directors.

Are our key players suited for his football?

Enzo, Jackson, Mudryk, Gallagher, Caicedo, Badiashile, Petrovic??

Names above are probably not the most suited for slow possession based football....not sure...

Nkunku, Palmer, Sterling, Gusto and howler-free Sanchez are suited for his football on the top of my head. Chukwuemeka also....

But we are all forgetting the goal. Winning football is nice, but is not the aim, improving the business and making money for the ownership group is. Jose Feliciano spelled that out clearly long ago.

So a manager to make players look good so we can sell 12mill Santos for 40mill, 20mill Paez for 80mill, 60mill Estevao for 120mill and 42mill Palmer for 125mill, is exactly what they want.

No. It's the reason why it's never worked. We've never had a squad suited to that style of football.

The vast majority of English premier league football teams are now owned by Americans.  So this idea of sport team purely as a business is not just a Chelsea thing.

So it is too late for any other horses to enter the race?  Or is it a two horse race?
Enzo Vs. De Zerbi  with Thomas Frank as the donkey

I mean can our Sporting Directors find some better horse to put in the race?

Dreading the season now tbh. Feels like an absolute train wreck is incoming again. We will sink without a trace before Enzo can implement his philosophy to a level that will get results in the premier league.

He is getting the job because he is happy to have any players sold without consent, and will accept any players pushed on him. No top manager agrees to that, as it's their reputation on the line, so they want to have some say in which players will make up their squad.

Spending billions to then put totally unproven coaches in charge of the project just seems completely out of touch with reality.

Think we will be looking another manager within 12 months.

Anyone getting a sense of deja vu? Does he always wear a track suit and smoke a fag? Were his press conferences mostly incomprehensible? Does he always have a face like a smacked arse? Was Harry Winks his Jorginho?

"Marescaball here we come".

God help us.

Eghbali and the like are investors, gamblers they’re looking for the next Apple stock at 10p rather than buying existing Apple shares.  Seems the same principle applies to their football acquisitions.  Seems Eghbali and Co are (to use trading lingo) “bullish” on Enzo Maresca.

I like how the ‘one tricky pony’ no plan b thing was being used by the De Zerbi detractors and the same thing is being said about Poundland Pep. Swear people just don’t like De Zerbi physiognomy, probably the soul patch/goatee thing.

Chelsea have studied how Arteta eventually thrived after leaving Guardiola’s staff and hope Maresca can flourish in the same way. (@kierangill_DM @TomCollomosse) #CFC

🚨 Chelsea's appointment was led by Winstanley and Stewart, who have built up an instant rapport with Maresca.

Alongside data analysis and background checks, the Italian, 44, impressed with his knowledge of the squad. His connection to Guardiola is viewed positively, feeling is he will fit the structure and hope to agree compensation with Leicester in the next days.
