agree on maresca....but do go back and watch us towards the end of last season. we had regressed (despite results which were positive - something which continued into the start of this season). The forest game was the one that sticks out. We were garbage.

Reports I've seen are suggesting the attendance was so low (29,027) due to concerns about potential problems from the Legia fans. Hence their allocation was cut and there was an increase in the number of stewards required, taking up even more places. It didn't stop the Legia fans bringing hundreds of flares into the ground though did it ?

That is correct. BBC confirmed this last night. Low attendance was entirely down to security plans.

The worrying thing is that most elite managers will tell the owners and SDs what is wrong with the squad and won’t be yes men. They’re all wired differently and not yes men. Whilst I agree a manager needs to work within a team and certain conditions, they still need the tools to do their job.

Poch walking because they wanted to sell Gallagher is a prime example. He knew what he needed and refused to budge.

Agreed. Maresca talks like a manager who has a long track record of success that he can fall back on to give his claims credibility. Problem is he has f**k all to fall back on. He is bloated with self importance and has an arrogance that only the likes of Jose in his prime, Guardiola and other serial winners can justify.

Yes his cards aren't fabulous. sh*te keepers, average centre halves, one good full back and one ok one, one quality central midfielder and one quality creative midfielder. Surrounding that is a bloated squad of below par talent. So arguably he is maybe doing as well as could be expected. This isn't a top four squad. But, that said, Liverpool aside, no other teams are massively impressing. So an iffy squad like ours could compete. Unfortunately we don't just have a lot of average players, we also have a poor mentality and a manager who seems utterly incapable of getting football players to even play at their level let alone beyond it. That is not a team we are watching. It is 11 players thrown out to play a football game.

I'd sack him now. Wouldn't wait till the summer.

I'm not too arsed about Egbhali ignoring the fans, not as if Roman used to speak to the fans, but I am bothered about the lack of transparency from the SDs who are basically supposed to be the spokesmen for this project. Last I heard they asked for 4 transfer windows for fans to judge, we're past that now and we've got a squad full of players who are either not good enough or are being mismanaged by a bloke with no managerial pedigree.

I was at the last game of the season, he'd reportedly had dinner with Boehly the night before to discuss the summer. At full-time he and all his staff went straight down the tunnel.

Remember the state we were in when Poch took over, he did a good job on the whole last season. He was never the long term option and I think he knew that too, but there's no way we sacked him. You don't spend time doing another "exhaustive search" after the end of the season if your manager leaving after the final game wasn't a surprise to you. We'd have had the replacement lined up immediately.

There are two obvious questions here. Why are so many managers convinced that a single idea about football must be right, this sense that there are indeed eternal truths in the universe, and that these involve slow buildup play and/or the use of wing-backs? And more widely, how have Chelsea walked into this contradictory state of affairs, the party club, a casino made entirely from fireworks, which then considers it sensible to appoint Martin Luther as manager.

Looking for logic from this version of Chelsea is probably pointless.

He had the option of a second season, but had to agree to go along with the transfer decisions that were proposed last summer. At the time that meant losing 2 players he viewed as key players of his squad (Conor and Trev) so he turned them down and left.
