After scourging through his data metrics I think I finally see what the directors are seeing. As @Gordon Bennett mentioned, I think we are getting him at the start of his trajectory.

Suddenly I'm reminded of Mendy. An amazing first year for us, awards and trophies everywhere, then off a cliff. No repeat of this please.

He’ll probably be good with his feet but terrible at actual goalkeeping.

You know it's all about feet and not about this actual goalkeeping nonsense.

He seems like a pretty good shot stopper amidst being on a defensively shambolic Villarreal side. He's faced the most shots in the league, has a very good save rate and still has the highest post shot expected goals metric in the league. The negative PSxG metric I won't hold him entirely accountable for given how poor Villarreal were as a team defensively. (Takes goals against into account) He's pretty good at stopping crosses amidst facing the most crosses in the league, and he is fairly comfortable with the ball.

I think its a case of ironing out his weaknesses and putting him in a system that highlights his strengths.

I hope you’re right. He probably has to be first choice to continue his development, so should be an interesting season to say the least

Yes, I think they're looking at doing away with that amazing first yer rubbish. A more consistent level of dross throughout looking at the metrics.

Would I be overly cynical in expecting to hear the news soon that Villareal have agreed a deal with Kepa who is willing to take a drop in wages. Just a matter of days/weeks after we sign another underwhelming goalkeeper from them.

They better done their scouting on him, another second choice GK is hardly going to help us win games. You either get a first choice, or rely on an experienced GK who's willing to be the backup.  Unless Sanchez suffers an injury or completely going off rail again,  this new guy isn't going to get much game time. Good luck re-sell GKs for a profit when the time comes.

This looks done for Jorgensen. Virtually there. Uninspiring again unfortunately, a pattern this summer.

Didn't we all moan about Kepa's lack of height and aerial presence at 1.88m. Apparently this guy is 1.90m. So i can see see Sanchez being No. 1 simply on aerial command, providing he can keep his brainf*rts to a minimum this season. But it looks like this position could well continue to be the pebble in our shoe this coming year as well.

It's not an area of strength that's for sure, but to put in retrospect he's among the middle of the curve in La Liga for stopping crosses and this is from facing the most crosses in the league last season. He also has a way higher crosses stopped % than Kepa.

Being a little more mature in years than most i am not sure what the modern day pc vernacular would be for "middle of the curve". I would call that mediocre but would this be "in line with his peers" nowadays? 🤣

Too late now but instead of spending 70-80 million on the quartet of goalkeepers we've bought in the Clearlake-era we should have spent the 65 million it cost to trigger Diego Costa's releause clause. Now we are just wasting far more money than necessary on average ones.

Diego Costa?

I suppose he could stand there and scream FCUK OFF to any attackers that entered the box. I like it.

So what now for Petrovic? We scramble to ship him off on subsidised loans every year until the end of his contract?

As both these goalkeepers seem to have very similar profiles we should get at least as much for Petrovic so that we can complete this pointless and once again underwhelming transfer.

Offered to Genoa but they balked at the fee we demanded.
