There is a problem with stats. Statistics are not the entire picture.

We have known for a long while that we have needed to sort out a goalkeeping situation and yet here we are and nothing seems clearer.

Stop depressing me :angry2:

He's 26, but both 26 and 24 would be too old.

Funny Alisson was 25 when we decided he was too expensive and he went to Liverpool.

Terrible signing the Scousers are never gonna get their money back now he’s 31!

Too old. I don't want to see a single hair on any of our players chests.

I'm not sure that the chest is where the first hair appears. You can get back to us with the results of your inspections.

I've read that last year was his break out season and he started off poorly but since Nov / Dec his form has been fantastic and if he were continue on that trajectory he'd be attracting bids from all the top clubs.

Maybe we're ahead of the curve ?

@Sexyfootball

Can you make a comparison of Ederson's last season at Benfica to Jörgensen's last season at Villarreal?

Desperately clinging on to the hope he can improve under the right set up but we are genuinely signing Kepa who's just better with his feet.

There's no data that far back for Ederson on the Advanced Goalkeeping, but the standard comparison is as follows :

Benfica did win the league that season of course, so you'd expect a lot of the metrics to look better then Jorgensen's do for 8th placed Villarreal 🙂

"Computer says Bulka" for me though 🙂

Hoping that's the case. I think he's a big reason why Villarreal weren't relegated last season.

For the money spent on Sanchez, Petro, Gaga and now Jorgensen, we could have got Diogo Costa.

However the club likely expects profits on Petro, Gaga and Jorgensen, and to make do with Sanchez...

I havent watched Jørgensen myself, to be honest. But, listening to Villarreal fans, they were outraged how he kept his place in goal for them last season. Close followers of La Liga say the same: how are Chelsea even interested in this guy?
Seems we are doing what this ownership love to do - spend money to downgrade the quality of the squad

Lers hope Winstanley/Stewart know better than the rest of the world! 😳

I remember Lyon fans were criticizing Gusto to be fair and wondered why we were after him.

Signs aren't good though.

Yes, but there were some glowing reports from other sources as well. On Jørgensen, its all crap. I’ve actually never heard such universal negative reviews on a player we’ve been linked with.
So basically, as if gambling on Sanchez despite all the evidence he’s nowhere near good enough wasn’t enough,  we’re getting rid of our trustworthy if unspectacular fail-safe in Petrovic and replace him with another crazy gamble in Jørgensen. Well, gamble indicates you might win big so maybe gamble is the wrong word 😂

Are there no grown ups at the club who question why we sign all these goalkeepers for all that money and still we dont have a single one at a high PL-level?

Again, havent seen him play so have to go by what others say on this one

After scourging through his data metrics I think I finally see what the directors are seeing. As @Gordon Bennett mentioned, I think we are getting him at the start of his trajectory.

He seems like a pretty good shot stopper amidst being on a defensively shambolic Villarreal side. He's faced the most shots in the league, has a very good save rate and still has the highest post shot expected goals metric in the league. The negative PSxG metric I won't hold him entirely accountable for given how poor Villarreal were as a team defensively. (Takes goals against into account) He's pretty good at stopping crosses amidst facing the most crosses in the league, and he is fairly comfortable with the ball.

I think its a case of ironing out his weaknesses and putting him in a system that highlights his strengths.
