Danny Welbeck

Is fair mate. Brighton do seem to get it right quite often. Wonder where Barco will end up being viewed as?

Also put in the bit you probably missed... ;)

And Enciso when he inevitably makes his way here as well.

The strikers market is terrible at the moment not much choice. Welbeck seems like a decent stop gap until someone better becomes available or a youth player steps up. As long as it’s around £10m max.

The fee and contract length have to be right here, with them reporting we’re just ‘exploring’ a deal atm, I’d say there’s a lot to do with both those equations. A 1 year deal would only match his current Brighton situation…

Really Brighton should let him go for free if he wants to join us.

Henderson went on a free to Brentford last summer and they are apparently willing to let him join us for free.

Brighton signed Welbeck 6 years ago from Watford on a free. 6 years of service.

Seems like a few of the Brighton fans are gutted about this deal. They feel he would have been a regular for them next season and be a big loss both for the team and dressing room

Would be a very astute signing. I said we should have signed him a few seasons ago. Bit like Defoe (who we also should have signed), just has this knack of scoring goals. Coming off the bench for the last 25 minutes, 100% better option than either Jackson or Delap.

This move and the Henderson has less to do with experience, but the home grown spots they might be losing when they loan Delap & Chalobah to other teams.

We currently have 9 players; Delap, Rogers, Palmer, Gittens, Josh, Chalobah, Colwill, James, Tosin.

Great job, Bob.

TBH, If you are any one of these players (emegha, Delap, JP, Jackson and you see the club are trying to secure a 35 year old to be the sub, self cocking respect says to call up your agent and find another f**king club. Its embaresing these guys are still here and havent handed in a transfer request.

Clearly, Alonso doesnt rate any of them either to play in his preferred rola as striker. Should have just gone for Boniface and be done with it.

Yeah if I was any of those players I’d be pissed as well, we have all wanted experience but Wellbeck as never come across as a leader to me.

As many have already joked quality, experienced leadership doesn’t mean old and his game hardly offers a profile of striker not at the club like when we signed Giroud.

If the manager as asked for him and Henderson and we get them for nothing plus sell our own players deemed not good enough for a good price then ok, maybe but the fact it’s Brighton again makes me feel this is more SD’s influence than Alonso’s man.

Done deal it seems. Contract for two years.

I think signing Welbeck and Henderson are safe and smart signings, especially with no European football. They arrive here knowing their minutes will be limited and frankly this squad needs some experienced players. Personally I would rather see Welbeck or Henderson come in late in the game when we need a goal, or even defend a result, rather than have Delap, Emegha or other young player.

My question though is we are playing 1 game a week, with a PL match day squad of 20. Let’s assume 1st 11 is Sanchez, James, Lacroix, Colwill, Hato *, Caicedo, Enzo, Morgan, Palmer, Estevao, Pedro. Bench of Penders, Palestra, Fofana, Henderson, Essugo, Gittens, Neto, Welbeck, Quenda. You then have in the stands, sold or loaned out Acheampong, Anselminho, Tosin, Gusto, Delap, Jackson, Emegha, Barco, Lavia, Sarr, Chalobah, Badiashille, Disasi, Jorgensen. That last group of 14 players needs to be trimmed down to 5 players for the PL squad list.

** We technically can’t sell Barco or Emegha this summer, since they were registered for the first time in this window and only a loan is possible.

Even if we were in Europe the squad would need to be thinned out with many of the same players. But we have a lot to offload either way.

I think we’ll take to Danny boy! PL experience, works hard happy with squad role. It’s not long term but a short term competitive addition.

Only knock is his stats have been padded for years by playing against us. Hopefully they have discounted that in their analysis.

Reckon a lot from that group are going to be sold. Some will be loaned, whereas the likes of Tosin, Emegha or Lavia will see gametime in the Cup competitions and be left in the stands for the PL matches.

It is what it is. We tried something for the past four years, it did not work. Time to try something different.

So am I right in saying this is a free transfer? No money to Brighton? Can’t really complain about that nothing to loose other than his wages. Hen do the same? No problem with that from me, just as long as they’re not regular starters.
