Man Utd to offload Rooney?

I'm not sure what are credible sources when it comes to soccer news or rumors but I saw this today in BBC's gossip section.

Obviously this is pretty new news, if it's even true, so any speculation on the topic is exactly that...speculation. But as a thought if, and that's a BIG IF, Rooney is available in the market would it be considered a decent idea for Chelsea to buy a proven EPL striker in Rooney instead of other targets like Cavani or Hulk?

Personally I'd probably enjoy my Fifa team more with Rooney in the line up to back up Torres or with with him in a years time.

But take this as it is, a gossip story from BBC.com.

no thankyou, his a good footballer but he is overhyped by the media simply is english. Torres, Drogba, RVP Henry, etc at their best have all been better players than rooney.

and his a c**t !

It's bs. Ferguson went out on an arm and a leg to get him sign a new contract 2 years back. And even with Rvp, their attack doesn't look near as good without him. Especially going forward, and considering rvp's injury proneness. Berba and own are out. Wouldn't be surprised if fergie ended up with 3 strikers with in the next year, as I read somewhere that he will most likely still only go with 1 striker per game, but Rooney will be staying.

Spot on.

There is no news here. The Mirror have fabricated this story as a knee-jerk response to Rooney being left the bench against Fulham.

"United are said to be preparing the groundwork for Rooney’s departure, with next summer the likely date for him to go"

'Said' by who? Usual tabloid BS.

i don't disagree with it all being due to his injury against fulham. rooney hasn't played well over time since after his injuries in the 09-10 season. he has scored goals, yes, but the rooney who led the line, ran for every ball, supported the midfield and pulled the strings in attack has been gone for at least two years. the euro-match against italy is the best evidence for this. rooney was supposed to mark out pirlo in the game, needless to say he didn't.

lots of united-supporters are fed up with him, and if he keeps up his lackluster effort through this season i'm guessing that rednose will be too.

There's a story about him going every transfer window...

So another new contract for team Rooney then.

Unlikely that he'll leave I would have thought, but i'd take him if he was available for a reasonable price. Considering this is a world where Andy Carroll cost £35m, I'd say about £30m-£35m for Rooney would be reasonable money.

Yes he is overrated by the English media, but he's still a quality player on his day

No. The tosser factor can't be undone by any goal scoring capabilities, which aren't what they used to be anyway. Plus I'd worry about the old ladies in the Greater London area.

Couldn't agree more.

Another reason why the tabloids have made this up is because Rooney won't be on case of FIFA games from now on..........the tabloids probably think FIFA ditched Rooney because they didn't know what club he would be at this season   :laugh2::biggrin:
