We were linked heavily with Aguero before we signed Torres, hence my deduction Roman chose Torres.

Would Athletico have sold both Aguero & Falcao in the same transfer window? Unlikely, I would also argue that Falcaos 3rd party owners were waiting for a bigger return on their investment at that stage.

Cavani wasn't on our radar at that stage, by the time he was on the radar PSG were able to offer a better package than us due to multi billionaire owners.

But you're all right it's all Torres fault.

Yes we chose Torres in stead of Aguero, and we couldn't sign Falcao from Porto because we'd already recently signed Torres.  I'm not sure what you're arguing?  It isn't the personal fault of Torres, but his signing is the reason we don't have Falcao or Aguero leading our line today.  The Torres mistake hurts much more than his lack of performances, and this isn't even taking into account the lack of playing time people like Sturridge got because of it.

That's the point, it's not Torres personal fault, however lots on here seem to blame him personally for it.

It's not Torres fault - I've always maintianed that's it's board's/Roman's pride that's the main culprite for the whole situation. If I was in Torres's place I certainly wouldn't want to be sold to some lesser club for a lesser wage - at Chelsea he has won all possilbe trophies at club level and only the League title is left to completly his resume.

Same old stuff being repeated 447 pages, so I'll just comment on the one I found the most interesting:

You think if he cost less he would have been given as many chances - I think he is only here because of how much he cost and the wages he is on. Otherwise much like Sheva he would pretty much been allowed to leave on a free to someone willing to pay for his wages.

I don't know if you remember, but Sheva was 'theTorres' of his time. He was our record signing when he arrived. And I would give him a standing ovation if he ever came back to the Bridge, just like I would to Torres or any other player that ever played and contributed to the team without leaving like a complete w****r as Poyet, Gallas, etc. did.

Sheva was easier to stomach because Drogba was on fire, I'm sure I would have found Sheva as frustrating as Torres - if Drogba wasn't banging them in reguarly.

The whole situation is a bit daft 3 years have gone by; numorous coaches; we still don't have someone to take up Drogba's mantle; we still have Torres.

We should have cut our loses on Torres after our CL victory.

I think you just summed up my point.

If we had been able to find Torres a version of Sheva's Drogba by now, he would have been gone as well.

And since the best we've got for a replacement is Eto'o and Ba, he is still here, so saying:

...just contradicts what you just said.

Anyway, I hate to get into these conversations. They don't represent why I support the team, and it is a team sport, so unless a player somehow offends the club or the supporters I just wish everyone would get behind every single player we have on our squad. They all leave sooner or later, Chelsea stays Chelsea.

Mail running a story that inter ready to offer £20 million for him in the summer.

It's probably a load of piss but let's hope there's some truth in it, would benefit both parties tbh.

If Inter does that, OHH MAY GOD, that would be awesome, and it does has sense, since they need/want a striker, after the vucinic-guarin trade fiasco, they need a big name, and maybe he isn't what it was, but still is a big name player. So Inter, take him!!! and also maybe in a two striker system he would shine...

Same old problem though, are they going to be able to !catch his wages?

Why would/should Torres take a hefty pay cut?

If he's told in no uncertain terms by Chelsea/Mourinho that he isn't first choice next season and has little to no chance of playing time then he might consider leaving but as it stands I can't see him leaving.

I guess Torres would have to think about his future beyond his current contract.

If Inter did indeed put an offer on the table for him then he would have to ask himself will he get a better one within the next 2 years, at which point he will find himself at 31 years old with no club. There will of course be other offers but I doubt there will be many better than from a club like Inter Milan that would be able to offer a respectable package both financially as well as in terms of the pedigree of the football club and quality of football/league/stadium/fanbase etc.

If he is thinking only about the money then he will without doubt see his current contract out till he is 31 and then probably sign one final contract with a club in the likes of the US or China but you would hope he still tinks he has something to prove at a higher level than that.

Winning the league this season would be catalyst enough for him to move out. He has no reason to leave really. We pay over the odds for him and he is considered our number one striker still...one trophy he's never won is the Prem.

Dont bother with Las7, he is a proper WUM. After years of dealing with him I have given up on the lad. Dont get yourself worked up over him.

But you have just joined?  Which other forum do you know him from?

Maybe he / she was banned from the site and has just recently signed up under a different name

Yeah, that occurred to me after I had posted!

I am always surprised when I find people who are not exclusive to the Shed End.  It's like eating luncheon meat when you could have fillet steak!

1st timer here although lurker for quite awhile.

Oooh - there is this spiffing thread called Musical Connections!

I like your name by the way - are you in the marines?

Yeah, that occurred to me after I had posted!
