Now we have it in a nutshell, you do not hate him because of his football, but oh boy, does it get up you nose that he is earning vast sums of money, well sorry, that is what todays situation is like in football, you will just have to learn to live with that, because it is not going to change just because you do not like it or the money Torres is paid.

Could be worse, Malouda is earning a mint while playign with the reserves.

....Bring back Lukaku next season and if Danny fails to prove himself this term, bring in someone to replace him, but he should certainly get the chance to prove himself, because the fact that Torres is keeping him out is absurd.

Sort of defeats your faith in Danny then if you are going to replace him if he doesn't score goals...and how long are you prepared to give him...10 games, 20, 30 a season? Until Danny learns that its not all about 'Danny' but about a team he can sit on the bench for all I care...Danny isn't the answer and I'm not sticking up for Torres either but it is a dilemma many teams face when managment decides that they put their faith in one player....Torres will be gone perhaps sooner rather than later unless he turns things around before January..and then what..Falcao? for another stupid sum of money and what happens if he doesn't start scoring goals after 5-10 games are we back to square one? or back to Danny...who no doubt will be putting in the transfer request once we sign another striker in Jan. Every other team out there knows we need one and the money will be absolutely outrageous....maybe we should knock on City's door and grab one of theirs if they decide to go after Falcao..

That's just it.

The big money players can suffer when they don't click straight away and we more than most know this as we have seen 2 of the worlds most talked about strikers at the time flop.

Does our owner take another financial hit in the hope someone can click or does he play it smart and bring in a stop gap who has a good goals to game ratio for a low value while waiting till the summer to see how the market is?

Who ever we buy will be under the spot light regardless of price.

I agree however it's easier in the head for a £7 million player to fire a blank than a £50 million one.

It's a mental block some players suffer from I'd imagine going by previous interviews with the likes of Sheva.

I just think the smart thing to do is bring in a goal scorer like Klaas who won't cost anything spectacular and no silly headlines about him failing to live up to price tags will not effect him ect.

I always think Jan deals for big players are rushed and not well thought out, summer is so much better.

I still think RDM needs to look at the set up clearly having the one lone striker isn't working it doesn't work for all teams and perhaps not ours...perhaps we need a 'deadly duo' up front...Utd have Rooney / RVP, City have Tevez / Aguero and we have Torres / ??? .....time for a rethink perhaps?

Could Torres - Huntelaar work? Does he play as a lone striker at Shalke?

Or even dare I say it Torres - Studge?

I recall Torres and Villa being a fearsome strikeforce once upon a time but of course Nando was at his peak back then. We have for some time now been a 1 man up top kind of team but that only worked with the power house that is Drogba.

I just think Torres is to isolated up there on his own, another striker or one of the midfielders play closer to him rather than across the park, push Ramires up just ahead of Mikel and push Hazard more forward as he doesn't like tackling back anyway..

I did think Hazard was too far behind him last night and couldn't really get at them as much so maybe pushing him up is the key.

Not been on here since the game, my god 6 pages of mayhem, and then a Davey baby return. Very entertaining.

May as well post my opinion since I'm here. Torres out falcao/lewandowski/cavani/Leandro in, along with a hunterlaar or llorente signing.

Loads of options, really like the look of el shareewy and jovetic aswell however not necessarily gonna be prolific.

Onwards and upwards ktbffh!

Good to have you back on board Davey. Where have you been hiding all this time? :koo-koo:

Thanks, Sugar Lips.

As for the reasons for my absence, loz got it bang on in my opinion in his previous post.

The Thought Police bore me to tears. They are way too precious.

Sturridge has had chances. For years Kalou came on with 10-20 minutes to go and changed games was he good enough for a starting spot. No neither is Danny, he was always going to get few chances and those he has had he has failed to take. The worst part about the chances he has been given is the fact he looked worse than Torres, and that's a damning conclusion right now.

Danny looked good under AVB on that right wing, Im not going to deny that but having watched him since at Chelsea and at the Olympics he has shown nothing that suggests he will be anything but worse than Toress up front.

What chances??

Decent, illustrated article on why Torres is simply not the goal threat that we need. Granted the examples used are from the Liverpool game but they still point to a more general, recurring problem in Torres' game.

Every member of Fernando's Fangirling Fratelli needs to read that article, and thanks for posting. The reason the chances don't arrive is Torres himself, as I've always said. No-one ought blame the manager, the formation, his teammates again. He just does not go looking to score. He is hiding, and has done ever since he joined. Sadly it has kidded some people.

That is a great article davey. And I'm sure I don't have to tell you that if you examine the 2 setups that the writer provided Torres has brilliantly positioned the Liverpool player perfectly between himself and the ball - classic hiding. I agree also with your use of the word "sadly". It is sad watching a player who's confidence is completely shot through. It is even sadder that he plays (every minute of every f**king game) for Chelsea.

I just can't quite work out if it's sarcasem or not

The problem is simple:

Sturridge: Shoots everytime he gets a touch on the ball, rarely looks for the extra pass.

Torres: Always looks for the extra pass, rarely shoots the ball.

As of late I feel Torres has turned into a creator not a finisher...perhaps he is to used to the false 9 of Spain?

(every minute of every f**king game)

.....and even when he does get subbed he strolls off the field with a "wtf me, are you fcuking serious ?" expression on his face.

.....and even when he does get subbed he strolls off the field with a "wtf me, are you fcuking serious ?" expression on his face.

Which riles me even more than when he throws his arms up in the air and glares at a team-mate when the ball is not played within a millimetre of his feet.

that article is alluding to something I pointed out a week ago, In his head he is a false 9 not the focal point

what bothers me is that he just seems to have no passion even when Sheva was struggling you could see he was clearly trying but it doesn't come off. I have a theory that maybe the use of a false 9 by Spain might have impacted his overall play. Yes that one where they seem to pass the ball around and just don't seem to shoot.
