A slight fly in the ointment regarding swapping Nando with Falco (or anyone else),will be the cost/value of his contract.

He signed a 4 & a half year deal in January 2011 I belive, for the region of about £150,000 per week.

If we round that up to Jan 2013,that mean's there's 2 & a half years left= 130 weeks X £150,000 per week = £19,5 million quid, (pardon my french but,farking hell).

That is the cost to which CFC are contracted to pay him.

I thought Athletico Madrid are potless?,even if their not,how much of his current contract will they be willing to pick up?.

Any transfer in, whoever it is,will still mean the club will have to subsidise Torres wages for the value of his contract, however he plays for, I belive.

A bitter pill, even for a billionare to swallow to be honest.

Maybe that's why he plays so often,Robbie isn't really given the choice?.

I love maths.........shame I didn't when I was at school............

Had to comment about the comment "Suarez oozed danger at the weekend" as it's complete rubbish - he had 10 minutes at the end when he looked dangerous but he was in Ivanovic's pocket the rest of the game - the first half he hardly touched the ball and had zero service. Torres also had little service but worked to make his own chances - I can't argue that Suarez has a better record this season and is looking more consistent, but if you are talking about the weekend you are well off the mark.

If he left tomorrow, every goal he has scored for us has cost us £5m each in transfer fee and wages.

£5m x 17 goals = £85m

youre just trying to make him look bad. you could at least include how many corners he's won aswell

Watch it! Suarez had a red shirt on and didn't cost 50 million therefore he looked far more dangerous!

In all seriousness you are spot on and I didn't even know he was playing until he pushed ramires out of the way and scored. Oh and if torres missed the chance he missed at the end with cech then everyone would be going on about how much pace he has lost since his liverpool days.

Meireles was never a defensive midfielder. Just because he was played there doesn't make him one. I never understood why he was ever selected in that position as he was way out of his comfort zone playing in it. I don't think he is a great loss to us as the position where he should be playing is one where we have much better options now.

Need a couple of centre forwards.

Torres has ran his course and I can see the club moving for someone in January, if we want to have any real hope of winning the league.

I have faith that the board have recognised this and will buy smart in January.

May not be a marquee signing, but more competition for places will be a good thing.

It was a great chance, thank fcuk Cech was alert, Cahill got left for dead and should of been made to pay, bet the Luiz haters will brush that under the carpet, nothing against Gary, love him, but he has not got Luiz's pace.

I truly believe that Paul Furlong would have scored at least 10 league goals in this side by now.

If you seriously think that then football aint the sport for you my friend!

The sooner we sign someone like Huntelaar the better otherwise I honestly don't think we have a chance of winning the title.

Torres has been given so many chances to prove himself but somewhere along the line you just have to say its not going to work, because it hasn't and it isn't. Although he had a decent game against Liverpool, the decent games are few and far inbetween and he's not putting in a lot of goals or contributing much to anything.

We just don't have an out-and-out goal scorer and its showing. The team as a whole are scoring goals yes, but there's nobody who springs to mind when you think of a player who's going to score you that important goal when you need him to. A player like that yesterday would have been the difference between 1 and 3 points, but we didn't take the chances we had and we paid the price. It's going to continue happening unless the problem is solved in January, or even (dare I say it) give Sturridge a few starts so we actually know whether he could be consistent or not. Like someone said before, I would have fancied Sturridge to put away the chance he had against United over Torres by far and as it turns out he did. Despite his ego and decision making he has a good enough eye for goal but he needs a few starts to prove this.

The club have tried everything to get Torres to score consistently but it's just not working and he's not going to re-discover his form he had at Liverpool. Its him, not the players around him. He's a likeable player (as a person) but he is becoming a bit of a burden for the club and if its still not working by the end of the season he should leave and we should sign somebody else as a replacement. Nobody too expensive, but someone who is a proven goal scorer.

Fair play to Paul,he was still 'banging them in' at the age of 44!.

And he was still playing football as well............

Haha...Paul Furlong has sneaked his way into a thread about a 50 million striker. You have to laugh!

On a (very slightly) related note, I was always frustrated at Furlongs ability to fall over at the wrong time and fluff his lines. My mate who used to play Rugby for Wasps knew Paul (ground share with QPR or something) and offered an insight into the matter. He reckoned Paul suffered from a balance problem due to his third leg. Apparently it was a beastly thing that could have clubbed people to death and it was so thick you couldnt even wrap your hands around it!...he never did explain how he knew that last bit.

Decent, illustrated article on why Torres is simply not the goal threat that we need. Granted the examples used are from the Liverpool game but they still point to a more general, recurring problem in Torres' game.

This article is absolutely correct, thanks for posting it.

One of the main issues with Torres has been his runs. Look at example #1 in that article. He's waiting for Hazard to pump the ball into the box so he can make a play. No Nando, you need to create the play for Hazard. Make the run, Hazard crosses, and hello scoring chance. If he gets caught offside, oh well. If the keeper comes out to catch or punch the ball, fine. However, give the man a target to put the ball to! Even if Torres draws the defenders towards him during the run then the chance opens up for Oscar on the near post. With Mata trailing in, and if the defenders move to cover Torres, Mata will have space in the middle if Hazard decides that's the better scoring opportunity. Making the run will continue the scoring chance. Nando's lack of run allows for the congestion to happen and the chance is gone.

This has happened way too often.

We need someone that helps create these types of chances. I'm not sure if Studge is the answer, but give the lad a chance before we possibly lose him in January or over the summer. We can't rightfully say he's good enough or not good enough without a fair chance. To date, he hasn't had it.

Played DM at Porto and for Portugal. He can also play higher up the pitch. Was a very underrated player at Chelsea.

I agree he was very underrated here. Both the English clubs he has been too has under valued him. I admit i thought he was a poor signing at first but i thought he did a good job. He reminded me of Tiago, not brilliant but did a decent job, i was annoyed when we got rid of him as well.

Sorry mate, but that's a load of rubbish. I can tell you from personal experience that it doesn't cause balance problems.

Just couldn't help myself from returning.....guess I'm not a man of my word....

Anyhow alot of people on here seem to confuse criticism and hate. Hate is a very strong word, no matter how bad a player is I don't think I've ever hated one.....(tell a lie, Boswinga trying so hard for me to hate him)

Anyway I really do not know how some people cannot see that Torres is useless. It's cost us already this season, and will continue to do so. I really really cannot understand it at all ! He's finished.

If he cost £10,000,000 this wouldn't be a problem as he wouldn't have been given these many chances by the coach and fan. He would've either been sold or playing 2nd,3rd fiddle to other strikers we may well have signed for a greater sum.

I literallly cannot recall any other Chelsea player that has struggled to find form that has been given as much support from the fans as Torres. I'm not talking about support on forums like these, I'm talking about live matches where Torres can actually judge a fans support. The last player I can recall is Ramires, and Chelsea fans were on his back after him trying to adapt in the league only after 4-6 months.

Torres has been given everything, all the help and support yet he just can't cut the musturd in any situation.

14 strikers have outscored/equalled Torres this season

Please also note, this isn't just PLAYERS who have outscored our strikers, just other STRIKERS. Which makes it even worse.

So what do we all think? It's pretty shocking so many strikers have outscored Torres, especially since we are meant to be a top 3 club. We don't even have a top 10 striker.

That is marvelous!! because he never was at 24.

Did you still want your account closed?

I think i'll leave it open and just fight fire with fire!

Yeah change of heart, why let a few morons put you off? Nah....I'm better than that.

I think the problem we have with bring a new striker in is he needs to be a bigger enough name to replace Torres, no matter what as soon as Torres is benched the media will be all over it, now if we bought Falcao for example then it would look more reasonable but say if we got Remy then it wouldnt look so good.

For me the reason Torres is starting every match is just to save face. Yes he has had a few good games but he has also had some real stinkers and actually not bothered in some. Now try and think if it was someone like Studge who didnt try in a game do you think he would be playing the next game? No! Robbie would have stuck him on the bench. But with Torres i think the club want to save face, they have done everything they can to get him going, I think Robbie could be worried that if he stuck him on the bench for more than one game and gave Studge a run then Torres would slip back to the Torres of last season which is even worse than we have now.

Our team selection should not be based on what the media's reaction to dropping a player will be. If he's not playing well, drop him.
