I fear that we are going to sell Courtois, and that in three years time we  are going to have to look around for a new keeper while Thibaut is considered the best GK in the world playing for Barcelona and Real Madrid.

 

As much as i love Petr i would take him back in the summer and make him NO.1.

I think the club could convince both keepers that next season can be a crossover season for Courtois to replace Cech, this way we can have them both competing for #1 spot, then if Courtois is ready and good enough he could go on to be our #1 keeper and Cech will decide if to stay and compete, or go on to other pastures.

If he is as you say the best young keeper in europe, how can £20m be too high? We just sold De Bruyne for about £17m and he couldn't get a game for us, are you saying the best young keeper in europe is worth less?

When you've fixed all the matches you generally have a bit more cash to splash.

the price we paid for cortouis already puts him in the top 10 most expensive goalkeepers IIRC.

they're trying to compliment Courtois, AND drive the price down, in the same press release... Good luck! can't see why clubs are so reuctant to pay good money for a quality goalkeeper, when the likes of Downing (average), Henderson (average), Lamela (average), Rodwell (average) have all been signed in the last few years for comparable sums of money! the goalkeeper is such an essential part of a team, that surely it is worth spending big money to ensure you have a quality player in a position where every mistake matters.

Why would a GK be valued so much lower than an outfield player? There are far fewer top class goalkeepers than in any other position, and they're just as, if not more important than anyone else on the field.

 

Look at the difference Cech made in our CL run, with any other goalkeeper London would still be without a European Cup.

As much as I like Cech, I think next year it has to be Courtois as first choice.

Such a lack of respect from Athletico Madrid. We lend them a top quality goalkeeper for three years, one who becomes a cornerstone of their team's march into Champions League qualification, and now they're publicly trying to use the press against us to pressure us into getting short-changed by them on his permanent transfer.

Jose Mourinho spoke to the media ahead of Chelsea's Wednesday game with West Ham, and naturally, some transfer-related questions were asked. When asked about Wayne Rooney and his negotiations with Manchester United, the boss politely refused to talk about another team's player. He did the same on Diego Costa when asked about some of the recent rumors, but did have some short answers to give when pressed on the future of Thibaut Courtois.

When asked if he could picture Courtois remaining with Atletico beyond this season, Jose responded with a simple "no" and a shake of his head. He also reiterated several times that Courtois is a Chelsea player, and did not get into to any future plans the club may have for him.

I think you're underestimating Atletico's bargaining position. Firsty, Courtois cannot come back, period. He is not a bench player, Cech and him are both world class keepers and neither can play second-fiddle to the other. Secondly, Courtois seems happy and content being with Atletico and thirdly, I very much doubt that clubs are queuing up to offer Chelsea £20+ million for Courtois who- in any other top club looking for a keeper- would not be more than a luxury player.

Give Cech a four year contract with an option to become goalkeeping coach when the time is right.Use Courtois in the deal to bring Costa to Chelsea,jobs a goodun imo.
