It would be sentimental to sell courtois and keep cech in my opinion. Do you regularly watch courtois play because if you don't listen to the people that do. The argument about going out and signing another keeper like we would a striker or a defender doesn't stack up because we don't have a young striker who is already in the top 5 in the world like we do a keeper.

 

You can argue about if courtois will get to the level cech is at now but in my opinion he already is and he can only get better whereas cech can only get worse.

 

We already have a great keeper, among the best in the world, who has proven himself at the highest level time and again, and likely has years left in him. I don't see it as sentimental to want to keep him. Nor is it sentimental to be a bit skeptical about getting rid of him in the hope (not certainty) that we've found someone better, or because he might be past it a few years from now.

 

If anything, clamouring to replace Cech at the drop of a hat now that a young, hot shot keeper has come on the scene and is getting rave reviews in Spain, is the emotional position to take. Especially if it's only based on listening to other people who watch him.

Exactly, Courtois is a hot prospect and will undoubtedly be linked with a number of top clubs while we are forced to make a decision on his future.  His signature could potentially be one of the biggest for Chelsea this summer.

We signed him before Euro 04 (Cech and Robben were signed in January).

As noted previously, ideally both can stay and challenge for the starting job. That sort of competition can spur both of them on to better careers personally and and ultimately for CFC.

However JM might have other plans for cech and would consider using him as transfer weight. JM did see quite a bit of courtois whilst with real so I'm sure he has a pretty good handle on his status. This is certainly setting up to be an eventful summer!

would like to keep them both too, but it's almost impossible to have 2 of the world's top 5 GK's in 1 team. Also, it 's a position on the field where you (players, manager, supporters) do not want to rotate too much. I guess the only way for Courtois to come over is when Cech wants to leave himself, but he's still too good and our whole defense is getting better and better every week, so I cannot see a single reason why anybody in our club wants to go for a change. Still plenty of time, no need to make a decision right now, let's win that title first, hope for Courtois he does the same in Spain.

So because his age isn't old for a keeper that automatically means he isn't on the decline? Different players peak at different times. While he may not be making major mistakes he isn't playing at the standards he has set over the last 9 seasons.
