He's also as strong as an Ox.

He florred both Cahill was it? and a Burnley boy as he came for the ball.

Remember that. He just looked down at Cahill afterwards like, "I'm not helping you up"

De Byrune?

You mean sitting on the bench is causing trouble? He barely got game time here, said he would like to leave if an offer come in and that was that.

The goalkeeper situation is a difficult one for me, looking at Courtois and believing in his ability from what I've seen in his loan spells and the one game here is obviously easy, feeling safe with him between the sticks for us is again relatively easy, letting go of a keeper who has been consistently top five in the world for ten years or so, a keeper who has showed loyalty and courage through injury and been at the heart of our teams best ever run of sustained top end of the table and top trophy winning form for me is still risky.

I think Cech has another five years of the same level of performance we've come to expect in him, I think he'd love to have those years here and I for one would welcome it.

Obviously it looks like a great move for the future to get a keeper ten years his junior in with proven ability but it's a shame it's come a bit early in Petrs career when the decision could have been made much easier had he been on the wain.

Best scenario for me would be for Cech to come out and say he loves it here and will fight for his place, I just worry that an injury to Courtois and a good run of games from Petr would see the youngster looking for a way out if he wasn't selected when he regained fitness, based on nothing but gut feeling but something that would make me wonder if there was any point in staying if I were in Cechs shoes.

Hopefully he's not as imaginative as I am or maybe he knows the youngster better and knows he would be up to fight for his place.

A nice problem for the manager but not one I'd like to make the decision on.

Cech is a unquestionably a legend, and has been a great ambassador for us as well. He seems like a great guy and has been instrumental in all our success in the Abramobich era. He's been a top 5 keeper in the world for 10 years but, if we're being completely honest, mistakes have begun to creep into his game since Munich. Granted, not very many but still more than beforehand. I remember some games last year where his command of the box from set pieces no longer looked like what it once was. Sure, this may have been in only a handful of games, but such games never used to exist. From what I've seen, Courtois already looks to be fractionally better, and at his age, will only improve and challenge Neuer for the top spot. Football can be a cruel game and unfortunately even to a hero like big Petr. I'd love for him to stay and play in the Capital One Cup but I think CFC should do the right thing and gracefully try to find him a top, CL club in Europe where he can see out the remaining 3-5 years of his career.

A headache we could do without. It would be silly to let someone as good as Cech leave before Courtois signs a new deal and in case Courtois doesn't work out. Yet Cech is unlikely to settle for being back up when he could be #1 at most other clubs, and Courtois may not sign a new contract without assurances that he'll be #1 here. Courtois is also at the point where he can run his contract down and leave for nothing in two years time, and his position (and his agent's) would be strengthened even more if Cech leaves. The worst case scenario is we end up losing both.

Completely agree. chelsea needs to go to Courtois and say, he we have an offer for Peter Cech. Obviously unless you lived in a vacuum for a decade you know what he means to us and supporters. With that said, we are looking to make you the Keeper over him but since we are showing such commitment to you, you need to show that back. Now go ahead and sign a 5-7 year contract for us before we send the club's greatest Keeper out. If Courtois says no then in my opinion we sell Courtois as soon as we can for the maximum money! I am tired of these young players who demonstrate zero loyalty to a club. Courtois has been given an opportunity to sign a long-term deal with a club who is willing to show so much faith in him that they are willing to sell their greatest Keeper in its history five years too early.

We should not be made hostage by Courtois. I think the club has gone above and beyond to accommodate him and has basically stated publicly he is going to be our number one without spelling it out to other clubs they can have Cech on a discount. Again he says no deal to a long-term deal, pack your bags. You will be dealt to the highest bidder. No question another Keeper will come along in the next 5-7 years we can sign after Cech fulfills his tenure.

Of course, I am not considering injuries and Cech is not getting any younger. However we budge on this deal aND we will have our young stars pulling the same antics. Sign Courtois but if he disagrees, good bye! Thanks for the win at Burnley!

I would be very suprised if a new long term contract hasn't already been discussed and we hear in the very near future.

If Courtois wasn't going to be long term he would have been sold already, the club isn't daft enough to piss of Petr before knowing that his replacement is here for the long term (it's just that we don't know about it yet )

Courtois was fantastic again today. I would love Cech to stay but i don't see him getting in right now and i think he will push for a move. I hope he doesn't because i want him to get that clean sheet record.

Cech can literally do nothing about this now really. I heard Cech came in on his day off to train which just saddened me because despite how hard he tries, it makes no sense to drop Thibaut for him unless he majorly cocks up, which seems unlikely after his performance today.

Which is sad because he did ef all to get dropped himself.

One was injured and didn't have a World Cup the other wasn't injured and went to the World Cup.

I think there was only one option really

Hmm, true, didn't consider that. Both had a solid pre season though.

Was a shame to see Cech warming him up before the game, looking at him he looked a little dejected, can't take anything away from Courtois he was class today when he had to be, solid in the air and second to none on his shot stopping.

Had Thibaut conceded on that one-on-one today there wouldn't be any blame on him whatsoever, but the fact that he saved it is pretty much the final nail in Petr's coffin.

At no point did I think Nugent was going to score that one on one.

He didn't look confident at all, all of Courtois saves and catches had drained all confidence. When Nugent received the ball he was desperately looking around for an offside flag to spare his blushes from the inevitable.

Courtois has proven over the last two games that he is better in the air than Cech and that instills confidence in the defence; keep him in the number 1 spot and bon-voyage Petr, its been a blast but time to find a new home with another great team you deserve it..

Good win and well worked goals today.

Ivanovic was brilliant today.

Costa is looking the business, feeling comfortable about my bet that he will score more goals this season in the league than Torres has in his Chelsea career to date.

Yes there's no shame in it. Cech has served us brilliantly but right now Courtois is second to none with regards to aerial dominance and his reflexes are simply outstanding.

Going by Joses comments on MOTD to GL do you think he was 'instructed' to pick Courtois because of the contract situation?
