Gary Cahill - PL CL FAC LC EL champion

Featured Replies

The most underrated player in our squad. Has won the lot. And people forget that around the time he joined us we were in a bit of dissaray (barring CL 2012 of course) he stepped up and has been a mainstay of our squad ever since.

Crucial tackles.

Incredible goals as a defender (including title-defining goals!)

Conte's fav in a back three, even when deemed "too slow".

Utter bollox. Love the guy and worthy of being captain.

Going from John Terry to Gary Cahill for Captain is like
going from Steven Gerrard to Jordan Henderson...oh wait.

Difference is Jordan Henderson's trophy cabinet is a solitary league cup.

Gary Cahill has won every trophy going, including wearing the captain's armband during a league title triumph.

The majority of these 'crucial last ditch tackles' that Cahill makes is because he's backed off from the attacker for the last 30 yards and let him get that close to goal for a shot..

If Cahill was starting in any other big team they would actively be looking for an upgrade.

Like who?

City have been dropping hundreds of millions on their defence over the last 4/5 seasons and they're still not happy. They'd love to of bought a player like Cahill who's bought us untold success for the messily sum of £7m.

We consistently have one of the best defensive records in the league with Cahill playing and I won't accept that it's in spite of him rather than because of him.

Yes, Cahill has his faults and weaknesses but then so do all of our other defenders but Cahill is a very talented and valuable member of the team.

Why GC is so criminally under-rated is absolutely beyond me.

City have a shocking scouting network and waste money but the intention to improve is there. Having Cahill in their team wouldn't have brought them untold success as he would have been exposed even more in their systems. Utd had Smalling that was arguably better than Cahill in recent years yet still went out and bought Bailly and Lindeloff to improve.

Moses only cost us a small sum also and brought us great success last year, yet almost everyone wants an upgrade on him.

No point keeping him in the team for sentimental reasons. He's the weakness in the back three and everyone can see it. If a team wants to carry on winning accolades we need to improve on our weaknesses, even if they have served the club well in the past.

Whilst Smalling is on a similar level technically to Cahill he just isn't on the same level mentally the fact that Jose was calling him out last season for a lack of determination says it all really. You need to have a winning mentality to play at the top level and Smalling lacks this and that is why he is looking to be replaced.

So much polarized thought in this forum.

GC is a great CB and will do a fantastic job if we have to rely on him over the season.

But... he is the weaker of the 3 CBs and as team that strives to be the best in the world you have to upgrade on the weakest positions. Which is no disrespect imo. DL and Dave are top quality options.

We are clearly trying to find upgrades in Rudiger and further links to Vvd/Bonucci/Manolas.

And i agree with the opinion that every top club in England would have wished to have had Cahill over the last 5 years and i'd say they would all love to have Cahill in their team still.

Happy he got the captaincy. Can't see him being first team post xmas with Rudiger taking his place more permanently.

But people need to stop saying hes though bad because he is clearly not.

Ahh yes, the internet. The place where people aren't allowed opinions if it is different from your own. Cheers buddy.

Only when they are embarrassingly wrong.

He's fine in a back four but in a back three on the left side he's vulnerable and teams know that and isolate him knowing he can't pass out from the left hand side...sadly as a back three his place is up for grabs with Rudiger the most likely to displace him...

Conte made him captain for a reason. Cahill is a good leader ( No offence, David Luiz but your too unpredictable), and shows a lot of grinta. I doubt he will be played out of the starting eleven by anyone, the only reason may be rotation due to the massive amount of games this season. Don't forget he scored 8 goals this season, and he is a bloody CB.

At 26 he was playing for Bolton with no hope of winning anything. I doubt he could have ever imagined just how successful he could be...

2 Premier League titles, 1 FA Cup, 1 League Cup, 1 Champions League and 1 Europa League

Also he's now become captain of the current Premier League Champions

Fair play

We stole him from Bolton. To think Wenger baulked at the price, he's exactly what the Gunners have been missing. It's amazing how many 'poor players' we've had in title winning teams.

Gaz Cahill is a proper defender. I recognise what a talent he is. Bargain price. Bolton seem to have a bit about them with defenders that go on and improve. Rob Holding seems good. Bolton to a team hoping for the PL 4th place trophy is a big step up.

I like the guy, but he was horrible against Inter. Our defense was totally disorganized and as the most experienced defender and the damn captain its on him to keep them in order. He also started doing that old annoying as feck thing of diving in constantly. Looks great when it results in a clearance, but when it doesn't it just leaves him on the floor and the attacker calmly walking past. Need him to seriously up his game on Sunday.
