Oscar - Little Diamond

Featured Replies

Yup people making excuses for him aswell I see. Guys not gonna be a top player, simple as that.

Yeah ever since that first season he has not progressed at all really.

He does ‘OK’ up until Christmas then he becomes a total liability, you can set your watch by it tbh he is that predictable. Keeping him decreases his value each season and it’s clearly time we cash in on him because as you say he will never reach the height we all thought he was capable of 3 years ago.

This year he didn't even make until Christmas before he dropped off. He played well against Swansea at the start of the season and then went down hill.

The last game he played really well in was in the game against Sunderland where we won 3-1, that was in December. His good performances are becoming more and more of a rarity now.

3 Goals and 3 Assists in 26 PL appearances? Thats not 'pretty decent'. Each goal against a bottom half of the table team. Don't let a HT against MK dons distort the stats.

In addition, his overall play is way below what is expected. Its easy to hide behind false stats. But most fans accept that in most games he literally has no impact. Its' not good enough to be average at Chelsea. Which is exactly what he is.

I was talking about his goal and assists during his time here, not just this season. Everyone underperformed this season, I can't imagine people are saying he should be sold based purely on this season so why would I focus on a single season.

There are aspects of his game he needs to improve on, I think composure in front of goal is the major one for me. He would be getting double digits in goals easily every season if he didn't panic in front of goal, does all the hard work with his movement and then just scuffs it.

I've already accepted that for the most part he is average, I'm not trying to argue he's world class here. Just saying that he offers us qualities that other squad members currently don't, so until he can replace that I will be happy to keep Oscar. If we could get someone exactly like Oscar but more consistent then I would be very happy with that, problem is I don't see many of  those around. Least not willing to leave and join us anyway.

Aspects that he's needed to improve on ever since he joined and he hasn't. He's a lost cause, he's not gonna develop into a superstar now. We could get good money for him still now so we should be looking to move him on IMO.

Fair enough. There are worse players than him no doubt. And the likes of Remy, Falcao Mikel need to be shipped on ASAP. Only thing is none of them will command the fee that Oscar is likely to. I think thats why fans want him gone, simply because we can still get decent money and invest elswhere.

Yeah this is spot on

Although Falcao has already moved on.

Huge fan of Oscar, but it did look like was on the way out and was used very little last season.

I'd be more than happy for him to stay but he does need to find more consistency and he'll probably have to to that starting the season on the bench so it is going to be a bit of an uphill task.

Anyway youse are f**king idiots he's a great f**king player.

He's getting worst and worst every season. I was saying sell him 2 seasons ago when we still could get decent money for him. After I saw him taking that notorious penalty I was totally done with that guy.

just to be clear- that line was a reference to fergie's famous hubristic defence of veron.

it was very clever.

No one else provides the movement Oscar does for us, still contributes well defensively even when playing poorly and his goals and assists are still pretty decent considering how badly people talk about him.

I will only entertain the idea of selling him when he starts failing to do the above. Until then he's still a useful member of the team.

It's rather telling that ,when building a case for him being useful, it's what he does without the ball that you cite as his main assets.

To be honest I think you are somewhat overselling these assets anyway (it's par for the course in my eyes), but quite frankly when deployed as our number 10, which he consistently has been, his primary purpose is to create and score goals, and the success of the attacking function of the team depends on it. He doesn't deliver anything close to what is needed- it's that simple.

His Premiership goal scoring stats are also not "pretty decent" in al honesty. In fact, if you do the sums, they pale in comparison to even the likes of players such as Kalou & Malouda who are two examples of modest, albeit useful, squad players of recent years. Oscar is a player who was handed the number 10 role by Mourinho at the expense of Mata and has had every opportunity to make it his, nail it down, and make his place in the starting 11 a staple. He hasn't, and it's because he doesn't do enough.

I have nothing against him and wanted him to develop into the player we all hoped he would.

He hasn't, despite every opportunity, and I think in the current climate of trying to achieve a positive "net spend" and having to sell in order to buy, he would be one of the first players I would be putting on the market.

What do people expect in no 10 anyway?  when we had mata, some people went along with jose to moan about his 'without the ball contribution' and looked up to oscar but then oscar seemed to offer the opposite of mata and people still moan..

For me no.10 is simple, it's all about  assists & goals but mostly assists and that's it.. Every player has strong points and weak points, that's why they're categorized, we can't expect them to be omni potent, the manager has to deal with it..

Reports that Zenit and Juve Interested, and we are willing to listen to offers.

PLEASE!!

I swear Oscar has been rumoured to go to Juventus for two years and nothing ever comes of it.

At the right price, I'd be willing to sell him and provided we have a replacement lined up.

If we are playing a 3-5-2 I don't think there is any chance there is a place for him in the squad unless Hazard leaves. He couldn't really play as one of the two deeper midfielders and that #10 role will surely be kept for Hazard, or if he is out, Fabregas.
