Oscar - Little Diamond

Personally, i think Oscar was playing better last season, i haven't really been impressed this season. I few good performances here and there but apart from some decent defensive work i think he has been pretty average.

the tactics are completely different this season....

Oscar plays in the center of the three, however, isnt really the free role position like Mata had....If anyone that has a free role now, its hazard.....

Look at mata this season, he wasnt given the free role and what did he produce?

So you are saying that Mata is responsible for the goals we were letting in before he left, that is ridiculous. If we can't keep clean sheets because our AM isn't good at the defensive work then there is something seriously wrong with our defending.

I like that Oscar can track back and defend but i would rather see him doing the work in attack for us, 2 assists is really poor for an AM.

we keep clean sheets cause oscar is always helping the pivot players and constantly there to provide an outlet for them....

Their a reason why WEst brom completely mauled us towards the end of the game when Oscar was subbed out for Mikel..

wow! you got eyes! it didn't escape my notice that ivanovic ended defending on the left side because someone was backing of and not doing the work oscar was putting in! like at citeh!

Well the boy is still only in his second season and is pivotal to the way Mourinho wants to play. There is no one I'd rather have in the 10 position but yes his all-round game and productivity need to improve. Same goes for Willian. The work rate is great but they need to offer more going forward.

This West Brom away game was the perfect time to rest Oscar or Hazard or Willian. They are clearly the A-team and so why play the overused A-team against the boogeyteam?

Had Cahill not got injured and we didn't concede and won 1-0 no-one would be complaining.

If we drew 1-1 and rested the likes of Hazard and Oscar everyone would be complaining that we didn't play our strongest team.

Can't win.

That is not true, a fair few people have been concerned about Oscar's performances for a few weeks now. I don't know if he needs a rest or something, but right now he isn't doing enough to contribute to the attack.

So what you are saying is that our defenders can't keep other teams out unless our most attacking midfielder is constantly tracking back to help them out......................well our defenders must be awful then.

Oscar is so underated!

People seem to forget that this is only his 2nd season playing in Europe and he's still only 22. Of course he's not going to be consistently brilliant in every game. In time he will be considered one of our greatest ever players if he stays with us

Oscar is really good when he is out wide and receives the ball one-on-one with the defender or even one-on-two Oscar has shown an ability to outsmart defenders.

Ill be happy to be proven wrong, but i dont think he will ever be a top player, and ultimately wont justify the faith put in him

I find that very unlikely. All his national teammates have praised his immense talent - some calling him a genius, Jose discarded MATA for him, and his work ethic is top notch. The combination of superb raw talent and great work ethic very rarely leads to failure. You must remember that someone like Ronaldo had similar traits (albeit a different kind of player) and even he took 4 seasons before he really blossomed. I think you'll be very happy once he inevitably becomes more consistent and improves his decision making.

I find it crazy how people have suddenly lost faith in Oscar after a few bad performances, the fact he has overshadowed Neymar in most of their Brazil appearances together speaks volumes.

Really? He's first choice for us and one of the best managers around in jose has said he is building the team around him. He has played nearly 30 times for Brazil and will be 1st choice for them at the world cup after getting 7 man of the matches in a row. I would say that makes him a top player already.

Oscar has played an insane amount of football for a young kid since the Olympics. At some point or other his body will have the final say and no matter how willing he is, tired performances will occur. A bit of rotation wouldn't go a miss for him now. He will recover and go onto be the top player we all know he is.

I don't think any one is doubting his quality, however whether he is a 10 is worth discussing. The idea he is only 22 and has played loads of games is fair, but remember Fabregas was ripping teams apart at 18/19 in the same role both in the PL & in Europe. if you ask me what a good playmaker is I would say creativity is the majot true requirement, combine that with a good passing, getting into good positions making for effective receipt and distribution of the ball. and the ability to facilitate that final pass to score goals.

Putting my head above the parapet here, I just done think he is intuitive enough to play that role at present. He is very talented and might grow into a 10 in a few years time but he is still well off, if I am not wrong he has around 2 assists in 24 games and is not top 3 in touches of the ball in our team (that will be Hazard, Ramires & Ivanovic). I might be wrong but Scolari is still looking for that pure 10 and has tried Kaka & Ronaldinho unsuccessfully, like someone pointed out in a thread Diego might be the one for Brazil. I reckon pushing him deeper alongside Matic like Carlo Mazzone did Pirlo might make him better in the long run.

His creativity is a concern for me as well.  Oscar has a lot to his game but if I saw him playing for the first time I wouldn't call him a playmaker, which is what I think the player in his position should be.  Defence splitting passes or incredible vision doesn't seem to be something in his locker.  That said, Mourinho wouldn't have sold Mata to accommodate him without good reason and on form his performances have been excellent; I just think I'd prefer an Ozil or a Mata in there for the sake of the creativity.  He has clearly been overworked lately.

but remember Fabregas was ripping teams apart at 18/19 in the same role both in the PL & in Europe. .

This is the discussion point that I find most interesting when comparing players.

'Hazard is going to be the best in the world'

'But Ronaldo was better than him at his age so I doubt it'

It is completely nonsensical to compare players based on their ages unless they have grown in a similar standard of team and in similar league quality. Fabregas at Oscar's current age had played in arguably the best league in the world for 6 years and alongside some of the best talents in the world. That experience is essential in allowing a player to fulfill their talent.

If you had to compare Drogba and Bendtner at 22, you could easily make the case that Bendtner is/will be the better player. Drogba later finally got the experience at top level football which turned him into a world class footballer.

Oscar will be world-class.

He is still young, played maybe too many games over the pasted two seasons.... & the World Cup this summer will be in the back of his mind!

But let's not forget, Mr Jose Mourinho has stated "he wants to build the team around Oscar as number 10" -

Now I think Jose knows a little bit more than us!!!!

Have faith.

4 goals in 2014...conceded

Guess who wasnt on the pitch. ....

People dont understand that hazard is playing the playmaker role the past few games
