March 15, 201511 yr I'd sell him or at least bring someone else in to give him the motivation to actually improve his form. He's not improved at all in the past two seasons IMO. Having to carry a no 10 after Christmas isn't going to make things easy for us.
March 15, 201511 yr Watching the game i've finally figured out what Oscar does. He is Mikel, he is what Mikel would have been if he hadn't been converted to a defensive midfielder. He usually keeps the ball, usually has a look up to see what he can create but then usually just passes it to Hazard or Fabregas and hopes they can do something. He puts in a decent amount of tackles and is not lacking effort but isn't capable of beating his man, rarely plays a dangerous pass unless its from a set piece, and these days rarely scores.
March 15, 201511 yr The more he plays, the more Jose will realise we need to bring a world class number 10, such as Isco :)
March 16, 201511 yr I think 433 gives cesc more freedom, so cesc ramires matic seems the logical answer. Then get us another class box-to-box player in summer. Pogba khedira etc.
March 16, 201511 yr As someone said earlier, the performance against Juve at that age really set the bar high for him. That and the fact that he was Brazil's no.10 really raised the fans' expectations. I remember people saying Oscar would become a better player than even Hazard. I found it laughable at the time and even more so now.
March 16, 201511 yr The more he plays, the more Jose will realise we need to bring a world class number 10, such as Isco :) We had one in Mata and now by the looks of things Kevin De Bruyne is now too. Edited March 16, 201511 yr by jack_super_class
March 16, 201511 yr If we wanna trot out stats then hows this Mata: Goals 6 Assists 3 Oscar: Goals 7 Assists 7
March 16, 201511 yr If we wanna trot out stats then hows this Mata: Goals 6 Assists 3 Oscar: Goals 7 Assists 7 If that's for this season, care to share the minutes played?
March 16, 201511 yr Ah so context matters now ? 500 ish minutes difference but would still work out to very similar numbers. If you look at PL alone its 300 minutes, 6 goals to 5, 7 assists to 3 Edited March 16, 201511 yr by Stim
March 16, 201511 yr If we wanna trot out stats then hows this Mata: Goals 6 Assists 3 Oscar: Goals 7 Assists 7 Mata 2012/13: Goals 19 Assists 35 I'm not one of those people that's suddenly feeling a love for Mata because Oscar's form has dipped. I know the reasons why Oscar was preferred over him. We may or may not be a better team as a result, but I'll trust Jose on that one. I do feel that we need a better no.10 though.

If you look at PL alone its 300 minutes, 6 goals to 5, 7 assists to 3 I'm not sure where I've said context doesn't matter? Mata also doesn't play in behind the striker where he played for us because that's Rooneys spot. If you think Oscar is good enough as a no. 10 that's fair enough, but for me, he doesn't contribute enough to goals and assists.
March 16, 201511 yr Ah so context matters now ? 500 ish minutes difference but would still work out to very similar numbers. If you look at PL alone its 300 minutes, 6 goals to 5, 7 assists to 3 As well as more than double the number of tackles per match. The argument against Oscar is the same as it was last season - he's inconsistent. He's added more goals to his game and at his best he's vital to our attacking and defensive game. His decline has accompanied the team's as well as Matic's and Fabregas's dips in form. It's not good enough but he is still a young player which is why he'll hopefully be kept around.
March 16, 201511 yr I'm not sure where I've said context doesn't matter? Got you confused with someone else, apologies. It's not good enough but he is still a young player which is why he'll hopefully be kept around. Hope so as well, just needs someone who can take his place when he is under performing. Such a lack of usable squad players and its far too late in the season to throw in untested youth players. Wouldn't be surprised if the two you mentioned and a couple others are playing through injury as well. Edited March 16, 201511 yr by Stim
March 16, 201511 yr Mata 2012/13: Goals 19 Assists 35 I'm not one of those people that's suddenly feeling a love for Mata because Oscar's form has dipped. I know the reasons why Oscar was preferred over him. We may or may not be a better team as a result, but I'll trust Jose on that one. I do feel that we need a better no.10 though. I think it is all too easy to see Mata have a good game or two for Utd and start pining for him again, especially when Oscar is far from setting the world alight. I know Oscar is younger and perhaps has a more complete all-round game, but at the moment he looks a jack of all trades, master of none. The situation isn't helped when Ramires, Willian and Fabregas are also struggling - seems we are just carrying too many players right now. What I would give to still have KDB on the bench right now. I still like Oscar but right now he looks more of a squad player than starting 11 material and form wise he is behind the likes of Mata, Coutinho and Cazorla. Edited March 16, 201511 yr by Nibs
March 16, 201511 yr Those stats don't really tell you much to be perfectly honest. Doesn't include any data of any use to be fair, wtf is 'interceptions' and 'take on's' ? It can't mean tackles because it says '0', so wtf does it mean ? What about tackle percentages, distance covered and shots on goal ? Include those stats and it would look better. March 16, 201511 yr I was one of those who when he first burst on to the scene he would be the next Kaka. He used to be a very good dribbler I don't doubt he still is but he isn't showing it at all. I thought Hazard wasn't a touch on this lad. If only he could show his early form again. That 12/13 season the trio of Hazard - Mata - Oscar was amazing. People forget what the influence of having a world class no.10 is like. All the boring Right back to Right winger passing we see that inevitably goes back to central midfield doesn't happen when someone who can genuinely understand what's happening is playing. Where Mata would drift wide in to those areas and pick up the ball. I've seen Hazard start to do this more and move out towards where the winger is and offer support. Oscar doesn't really do this. Maybe it's tactical amd Jose wants him to be aware as Fabregas is up the pitch and could get caught out or maybe he doesn't have the intelligence.
March 16, 201511 yr Lots of players look like they have the world at their feet at 19/20 and fail to really improve much.
March 16, 201511 yr Pinning for Mata and "better" players but the current Chelsea number 10 looks set to be a part of our first title winning team in 5 years. Funny old world isn't it?
