Nothing more than a squad player nowadays I’m afraid - the problem being our alternatives are Baka or DD so we’re still extremely weak in the centre of the park despite the countless millions we’ve thrown at it.

I feel, this is really unfair on DD. The guy has been a 7/10 player for us. Does the basics right, which is what we want next to Kante (who i feel was the best player on the pitch). Cesc gives us NOTHING of note. That one quarter-backish pass in 10 games, is not worth the absolutely abysmal all round game play of his.

We desperately need another central midfielder next season. Someone who will dominate from box to box.

Cesc can take a bench role.

He needs to be a sub at best next season

Still feel Baka can blossom into that role. Cesc needs to leave. I hope we have him on that 1 year contract thing and simply let him go.

Agreed. We need more energy in midfield. These days he is a passenger that we have to carry. Still comes up with some good assists from time to time but that isn't enough.

I don't, i was against signing him from the beginning. He just doesn't look like a very good footballer, never has done from what i have seen. He got lucky last season, he was playing for a super confident Monaco team and was being carried.

His passing has been so poor this season usually you can count on him to create at least one defence splitting pass but now it's nearly always over hit underhit or backwards.

I like Fab but he was poor tonight.

I can’t remember him having any good games against Arsenal or Barcelona, seems to struggle with his ex teams.

Doesn't offer anything to the team anymore imo, time to start looking for a younger playmaker (either from our crop of young players or from buying) that can play beside Kante. His passing and assists used to be the saving grace, but without that, he's just an average playing running through the midfield and chasing balls.

 Not making excuses for him, he’s not been good enough but also let’s bear in mind - he used to have Costa, now he has Morata and Giroud

I was thinking that but even when there is the option for those Hollywood passes he tries but 9/10 times doesn't execute them. 

He didn't play often last season so often had fresh legs, wondering if that has something to do with it.

His first game for us against Arsenal, he dominated the midfield. His assist to Costa was spot on too. He was also good in a 3-1 win against Arsenal when we were pushing on to win the title last season, he got a goal in that game.

Without a doubt, as Scott said above time is catching up with him, he was never the most athletic. It’s only going to get worse as he gets deeper and deeper in to his 30’s. I do think the strikers have a role though. Costa would battle like f**k to get on the end of something and make terrific runs. Giroud & Morata don’t have the same fight in them to with the ball for me.

I think that has a lot to do with it. Fabregas had more assists for us last season than any other player, and that was when he was used more as a squad player. This season, his assists and goals stats are lower and he is starting more games. It's not just stats though, it's his overall play. He just looks slower than everybody else, i don't just mean slower at running either, it's his reaction time, he can't cope with being rushed anymore. He needs too long to pick out a pass, he used to be so much quicker at that.

35 starts so far this season, 8 sub appearances, 2 goals, 9 assists, looks off the pace and miss placing a lot of passes. 

28 starts last season, 20 sub appearances, 8 goals, 16 assists, looks much more fresh being in and out of the squad and not miss placing so many passes.

I feel like if DD was playing this game the second goal would have not happened or atleast would have been made more difficult. Cesc without Costa is useless.

THe performances against united and spurs does give a little hope. He is young, so lets hope for the best.

BTW, would not mind one bit if RLC takes Cesc's place in the squad next season.

time to replace him with a player like Savic. 

Like we'll spend 100m on one player.
