Willian

Ah right, I thought he meant direct running at defenders, something we had sorely lacked for many years. Other than Kalou, bless him.

willian is very direct, if he gets 1v1 with the full back especially on the right, 9/10 times he'l take his man on, rather than come back inside and look for a pass, which I think hazard is guilty of doing too often.

He isn't a kid either and I'm sure his presence will help the younger less experienced attackers like hazard, oscar, de bruyne, and schurrle, as there are times when someone needs to take the bull by the horns so to speak. Mata does it more often than not, and hopefully the younger players will start to do it more regularly with experience, and less pressure to produce. I think thats a reason why hazard performs better when mata plays, as he feels less pressure to be the match winner, and his play becomes more fluid and natural.

Direct in his book is to hoof to Lukaku/Torres/whoever. Passing the ball is overrated these days- it's not like Barcelona ever won a trophy, compared to Bayern who are basically Stoke in lederhosen.

Hahhahaa.

Hopefully Willian will fulfil all his promise at Chelsea and Spurs will be left rueing that leak about the medical. If he is doing well when we go to WHL I reckon we should use the old Smith's ditty:

Willian! Willian! It was really nothing!

To be honest, I think Lamela will prove to be the better buy (certainly long term). And if they add Erikkson for 10mil or so, those 2 signings could both prove to be significantly better value than our Willian purchase.

I'm not saying Willian will be bad, but I think Spurs 'plan b' options may be better.

I have heard a lot of different viewpoints on Lamela but I haven't seen enough of him to decide myself.  He might turn out to be a great buy but I will hold off until I have seen how he does.

Lamela would have certainly made more sense. Left footed, plays on the right wing like Jose mentioned and can also play forward I believe. 4 years younger and has performed in a tougher league.

Damn it! Just when I had accepted the Willian signing. I blame you Cam.

I dont think hes better than willian at this moment and hed need playing time to reach his full potential. He wouldnt get that playing time at chelsea

I wouldn't have thought we had playing time enough for Willian, but here we are.

I do like Willian...but I certainly don't think we did any lasting damage to Spurs by stealing him from under their noses. Short of a touch of embarrassment, they come out of this looking mighty strong. (especially compared to Arsenal lol)

I guess it's going to depend on how quickly (if at all) some of their signings settle into the Premier League.

End of the day they are still losing their best player (of the last 2/3) years so there is a whole lot of pressure on the new signings to deliver.

They've certainly bought well but I think it's going to be a year or two before you see the best from some of their new players.

Lets see how Spurs new signings actually do, and how they play as a team before getting too giddy.

And see how avb does being at a club for a second season for the first time.

Interesting detail that was in the official site in Dean Evans' blog:

"Willian is likely to find competition in the attacking midfield area fiercer at CFC than his native Brazil however. The density of talent in said area at CFC adds to the intrigue of his signing especially when it seems (as it still does) that Mourinho’s priority is bringing in a centre-forward. Willian must be central to Mourinho’s plans as he will need to play enough games to maintain a permit to work in the European Union."

So he needs to play x amount of games to meet the needs of the permit. I have no idea how many games that is but I think there is no problem with it though as we have FA, League Cup and CL. Still interesting. What if he gets injured...there must be clause to that...

Means very little in the grand scheme of things, but he played awfully when he came on against Arsenal on the weekend and his uselessness was only eclipsed by Soldado's complete ineptitude.

Hopefully his form doesn't get any better  :laugh2:

Dont know a lot about Lamela ( apart from on FM), but my guess is Jose wanted a bit more experience if nothing else. At least this year we won't be depending on Moses/Marin/Yossi anymore.

I don't think we ever depended on Marin haha

I always wanted to go to Chelsea. Chelsea presented an offer and it was always my dream to go there.

Chelsea is a better club than Tottenham in every aspect. I have spoken with my fellow Brazilians at the club, especially David Luiz. I am also happy to play for Jose Mourinho. That was definitive in my decision.

Ha ha ha, good lad.

He seems genuinely happy to have signed for the club and that's exactly what you want, players who want to be here.

like Joe Cole, he's saying the right things to make the fans that he'll be playing for like him.

Come on people don't read too much into this.  We are a better club than them but it doesn't take a Brazilian that doesn't know either club to confirm it.

How much playing time do we think this guy is actually going to get? Will he be like Hazard and start every match (so far) or like KDB and play every couple of games or like Mata and not play at all?

It is much too soon to judge Willian. He needs time to adjust to Premiership football. He possesses all the attributes to be a success.

He is a very promising addition to our squad and it will be interesting to see how Jose uses him.
