No he wasnt very good there, the Spurs game at home in particular he was often well out of position.

His best games have always been in defence.

He wasn't going to be instantly amazing at DM because that isn't the position he's been training for his entire career. There was enough evidence to suggest he can be very good in that position if given an extended run there.

No I don't. Jose said he was a defender at the start of the season. Jose made up his mind about a lot of things right at the start of the season.

Eg Oscar was no 10 for Brazil and therefore wouldn't play deeper,luiz was a defender, mata can't defend lukaku wasn't good enough for cfc etc

Anyway I don't really see luiz as a great midfielder, but he is an excellent player that has been underused this season.

Matic is my real hope this transfer window. He is a CM, which we need, Benfica are a selling club (we know this), and he has been a Chelsea player before. The triforce has aligned for us to buy Matic in the next 3 weeks or so.

I dont see how he has been a Chelsea player before is a plus. If anything you would think it would make him more concerned about rejoining. He didnt make it the first time, he is a starter already where he is and he will face better players fighting for his spot in the team.

Matic has obviously improved as a player,we obviously rated him before because we signed him.Last time Matic here he was young and had much fiercer competition in Lampard,Ballack,Essien,Mikel,Deco.Now if we bought him in my opinion he'd walk in our team and play alongside Ramires.I always liked the look of him when he was here with us before in reserve games he stood out,shame he didn't get enough chances.

It's an interesting situation. I honestly only ever remember him coming on once at the end of a nothing game and he was about 15 feet tall and made his passes that was it. Nothing special by any means.

 

He was probably hurt by the fact that the home grown quotas came in and all of a sudden he was 21 and taking up a place without really expecting much gametime.

He cant have been that rated at Chelsea because we let Ballack, Deco and Belletti all go in one summer and Matic was then loaned out. He wasnt even kept around to fill a squad space.

Now im not saying he hasnt improved, im sure he has but is he willing to fight for his space with out big starts or stay where he is where he plays each week.

The fact that we used him as a make wight for luiz should have no bearing. It's effectively a sunk coat and should be discarded. We need to look at the quality of the player now, the value to the team and squad as a whole. He's only 25 so right smack bang in his peak. He's what we need and is a high quality player.. all factors indicate that if we can get the deal done we should

From the games I've seen of him he's much more in the pat veiera mould then mikel
