What will he do when the likes of Catermole, Shawcross etc come flying in to take the ball from him? How will he react then?

He just screams trouble to me.

The same way he reacts when facing those kind of players in La Liga, by scoring.

Also I feel like it's important to note that he only has 7 yellow cards and no red cards in 32 games in La Liga (Only 1 yellow card in the CL as well). This is La Liga we are talking about here, a gust of wind is enough to send players rolling around on the floor feigning injury in order to get someone sent off. If his diving was that bad he would have been booked more often too.

Watching La Liga is hilarious, I've seen stamps, spits and blatant wipe outs that result in nothing, sometimes not even a FK.

Hate to break it to you but the same thing happens over here. One of our players just recently got away with elbowing someone in the face, Fellaini has been a wrecking ball since he joined the EPL and has somehow managed to keep getting away with it, etc.

He didnt really impress me at all last night.

Really hoping Rio Ferdinand gets one last season at United just so Costa can kick the sh*te out of him. Can't see Suarez trying to take a bite out of him either.

Personally I can't wait for Costa to arrive. After a complete lack of any type of physical presence whatsoever up front since Drogba left, Costa is exactly what we need. Been a long time since we had a centre-forward that opposing defenders are scared of.

Can't understand those people who want our starting centre-forward to be a cross between Mother Theresa and Brad Pitt. An ugly f**ker who scores goals and ain't afraid to get stuck in and do damage will do me just fine thank you.

I'm ok with him being ugly and annoying. The bit that worries me is where his strengths and weaknesses lie. He is great in a team that plays like Atleti. Very fast and aggressive. He struggles when teams sit deep. That's exactly where we need help. Against teams that want to play against us we do just fine. It's when they sit deep and deny us space and make us work that we struggle and I suspect Costa won't help us all that much. Yes, he'd be an upgrade on what we've got, but I don't think he is necessarily the answer. I actually think the solution lies more in our full backs but that's a whole different philosophical question.

Are people actually looking for a striker that thrives when playing packed defences?

I think Costa will be with us next season but I don't think he will be the only striker arriving. If Torres, Eto'o and Ba all leave we will need Costa, Lukaku and another forward. Though rumours of Lukaku leaving could mean that we have 3 new strikers next season.

 

I am not overly convinced with Costa, he just hasn't got anything special about him but he scores goals and that is what we need. He seems a poor mans Luis Suarez but currently that's not an insult.

 

We are not exactly spoiled for choice at the moment unless a star is born at the World Cup. Though I expect us to tie up a deal before a WC simply because as you know prices inflate per performance. Costa will prove his worth in the World Cup in a Spain squad that plays frustrating football and in which the striker waits for the ball after 100 passes are completed by the midfield before a chance is created.

Because bar the games against Real Madrid & Barca, it's a much easier league to play in. No way would Messi and Ronaldo score the goals they have done in the PL and the same will apply to Costa only more so as he is a much more limited player.

If thats the attitude then no one would of signed Suarez because he was playing in an "easy league" . Sometimes you have to have the balls and take a gamble, its not like we have a huge list to choose from.

You can't judge a player by how they play against us in a Champions League semi-final, especially one with Mourinho in charge of the game tactically, I guess you all think Messi is sh*te too.

 

He showed glimpses of his quality and very nearly scored with that header near the end if not for Cahill blocking it with his head, I definitely want him.

 

If nothing else he definitely offers us something different, it looks like we can try play our little passes into him and he can get the job done, or we can swing a cross in and he'll get the job done too, something you can't say for any of our current options.
