i'm sorry to say this but he's just too slow in a back 3 formation, everytime the pikeys break in a counter attack and aina's late to track back kouyate would just run past him, it's the risk of playing wingbacks we need a center half athletic enough to deal with wingers in counter attacks and sadly JT's well past it

it will be hard for him to get back at the starting xi especially since zouma's coming back

Best ever Chelsea-player for me and the biggest legend there is but his time is coming now. Maybe its for the best even as we can play more adventerous high pressing football like in 3-4-3 when he is not playing. I'm going to guess this is his last Chelsea-season as a player.

A legend, but apparently not suited for a high-pressing 3-man formation given his pace has deserted him. 

Maybe as a ball-playing defender at the base of the formation there would be half a chance of making it work, but Luiz is far better in that role. 

I would play him in a 4-man formation if at all, maybe in a situation where his experience is essential. 

I think the way every thing happened with his injury at Swansea and the loses after that happened for a reason sometimes that's how you stumble upon your best 11 and tactics. I think the club should be looking to JT now as a coach club representative

Defintely not suited to playing on the side of the back 3, he hasn';t got the pace to get out and press and cover for the wingbacks. He would have to play the central role sitting a little deeper if he's going to fit into this formation. Maybe with Luiz left and Zouma right.

I agree, and i was surprised to see Terry playing on the side of a back 3, he hasn't got the pace to play in that position. If Terry plays in this formation then he has to be the one in the centre. Putting him on the left is asking for trouble, especially when he needs to cover for the LWB.

Yeah I think he can rotate with Luiz in the deep role, not as a ball playing CB but a last man sweeper, you always need cover for every position anyways.

It does seems like Conte may have found his new 11 out of necessity, not just through missing JT but also forced to drop Oscar, Willian, Ivan. The only regular we know he doesn't really fancy is Cesc.

started in the mddle with luiz on the right (which for me is the only place he can occupy in this system) and was okay, but beaten for the header. luiz shifted out of the middle saw his performance level drop as a consequence.

then after half time he went into a wider position and luiz went back into the center, and it was very clear he wasn't suited to it.

I think it was understandable that he looked rusty, like it was for the others who hadn't featured much, but it is clear he should only be fighting with luiz for that place in the middle of the three. I wouldn't write him off just yet, before his injury he was clearly the best defender we had and out of the context of the system that remains the case.

There's just so much wrong with that

a) It's pathetic that they need to distribute song sheets anyway.  

b) Obviously the contents are deplorable and out of the ark whoever they are about

c) The lyrics are not even witty 

d) JT is usually pilloried for shagging women....... quite a turn around to suddenly decide he's gay

e)  just, just everything about it is lamentable.

 

Having seen the west ham goals, looks like both goals had something to do with JT losing the duel and of course begovic is as much guilty.. That header from that kind of range, a top GK should never be beaten by that.. 2nd goal, JT failed to block it and the GK, again, failed to deal with long range attempt...

Obviously a club legend but wouldn't have beat United 4-0 with him in the team. Too slow now and well past his prime, it's best he stays at the club as a leader figure playing cup games only.

I agree, but they're effectively the same thing in this case, since Luiz is the primary ball-player within the back 3.

I really wouldn't. 

Hate to see players in decline but as much of a legend JT has been, this is clearly his last season and I can't see him getting that many games. Great to still have around as an option and to inspire but the end is most definitely nigh.
