Filipe Luis to Chelsea... and Back Again.

Featured Replies

How much did they actually learn from Ashley though? I feel like they rarely trained with him due to spending their wary careers on loan.

I read articles from both players praising Ashley Cole & thanking him for his guidance.

Bertrand have a great season so far

Personally always thought he looked good when he played but maybe there was something missing during training.

We have to respect Mourinho's decisions but it's disappointing to see another English lad leave before he's ever really been given a chance.

Bertrand was decent from what we saw of him but we have 100% upgraded with Dave and Luis so I'm nto complaining.

IMO he is a decent EPL player but he isn't good enough for the top teams...just my opinion on it.

Luis will definitely start this weekend against Manchester United. Great to see that his opportunities to play regular first-team football are opening up for him.

He was superb in the mid-week so I'm liking the fact that he's earning his spot in the side rather than purely getting a game on reputation. Even if Azpi lost his spot to Luis he's been a superb defender and he'll continue to push Ivanovic and Luis to perform which is always a good thing as it demands high performances.

When competition for spots is occurring you know the team is performing well at the moment.

I know probably 90 percents of fans will take it as joke, but I'd prefer Ryan Bertrand untill now. In my opinion Luis is not what we need. We need a strong four line, he might be non-experienced yet, but he's 29 already, don't you think we losing time? Bertrand is gaining more experience and now even starting every match at Southampton.

Wait, are you calling Luis the La Liga winning, Champions League finalist inexperienced?

I think football fans are just fickle about players who aren't getting game time - if we didn't have Azpilicueta I imagine he would quite comfortably be the best defensive left-back in the league.

When he's played he's looked great, he's a lot better than Bertrand.

I wouldn't mind Filipe Luis playing a few games. While Dave and Ivan are hard to drop I think Hazard links up with him nicely and would play better with an attacking minded left back.

It wouldn't be a bad idea starting him against Tottenham in the mid-week.

He needs game time and he more than covers Azpi's absence if we rest him.

I was surprised Jose didnt give him 20 mins yesterday. Azpi as good as he is in defence can't deliver the crosses the same as Luis. He would have given us the much needed width we were lacking throughout the match.

This is the downside of playing Azpi at left back. As much as i like Azpi i would much prefer fullbacks playing on there natural side. Its not like Luis is bad defensively either

He was a big, big miss yesterday. If we are not planning on using him against that sort of defending, is he here only to cover injuries? I appreciate a settled back four as much as anyone, but Jose should show some flexibility.

Azpi needs a bloody rest occasionally. The guy has been working at 100mph for months now and he is not a machine. I would like to see luis given a go, as he is a bloody capable full back and was not the best LB in Europe (general consensus) last season for no reason. I'd put azpi at RB and Luis at LB for a few games to see how it goes. Azpi bombs forward on the left flank, only to stop and pass it inside because he's not very confident to cross on his left foot. How many times has luis put in a terrible cross? I have never seen it. If we played with two up front on occasion, such as drogs and costa, someone will gwt their heads on the end of those bad boys that luis puts in.

Would have been ideal in a game like yesterdays

Exactly, with Sunderland only defend inside the box, he would be ideal to put the cross in under little pressure. Having said that, from the few games he played, his crossing hasn't impressed me much. He should get a game this weekend, expect more of the same from Newcastle.

He had a rest for a few games after he was sent off.

I don't think the issue is Dave being tired. It's the fact that he's a right-back playing at left-back which means his attacking merits are massively hindered.

It's both.
