December 11, 201411 yr Pellegrino thinks his multi billion pound side deserve more credit for finally getting out of the group stages by the skin of their teeth. Not sure exactly what credit he thinks they deserve but there you go... I'm sure Jose isn't sitting at home patting himself on the back for Chelsea getting through the group stage it's the least we should be expecting to achieve in the Champions League and I don't see why the current English champions should be thinking any differently.
December 11, 201411 yr Not sure why people keep saying this. For all their possession, Bayern's goals were just as "lucky" as City's. Maybe so but it doesn't take away from the fact that for the most part they were outplayed on their ground by a depleted side. You don't have to go out of your way to give credit to our rivals all the time, really. Edited December 11, 201411 yr by Teritus

Jose vs Pellegrini is exactly why I think we have the upper hand in the title race. Pellegrini lets things bother him whereas Jose brushes things off.

December 11, 201411 yr A sixth-form college triggered anger yesterday by offering sociology students a trip to watch a match at the “notorious” Millwall Football Club to learn about working-class habits, masculinity, homophobia and racism. Varndean College in Brighton was accused of perpetuating out-of-date stereotypes after arranging tickets to a match featuring the London club. The trip for students of AS-level sociology, was proposed as an opportunity to “observe and even talk to football fans from Brighton and the notorious Millwall”. A poster advertising the excursion to tomorrow evening’s match at Brighton and Hove Albion’s Amex Stadium was pinned to a wall in the college this week. Students would be able to see “the new lad and hyper masculinity, hegemonic masculinity and women challenging gender norms”, as well as “working class culture and habits” and “issues around sexuality, race and ethnicity”, the advertisement said. The poster urged students to seize the opportunity to “be a sociologist” and watch and “even talk to” supporters of both clubs. Underneath was an article about a Millwall football hooligan. Just in case the college was worried that its students would stand out, it suggested that they buy themselves a pie and wash it down with a cup of tea or warm Bovril. Students interested in going to the Sky Bet Championship match were urged to speak to their teacher. The trip also appears in a list of authorised trips for college students on the college’s website. This lists its purpose as observing “class, leisure, masculinity (racism? homophobia?)”. Among those who spotted the poster was Scarlett Watkins, 17, an A-level sociology student whose family are staunch Millwall supporters. She plans to attend the match independently, sitting with the Millwall fans. “I thought it was discriminating against Millwall as an easy target,” Scarlett said. Her brothers, Reece, 25, and Beau, 20, attend most Millwall games. The family, originally from south London, moved to Haywards Heath in West Sussex about 12 years ago. Sarah Watkins, their mother, said that Millwall had been unfairly maligned by the college. “Millwall do a lot of fund-raising for cancer patients,” she said. As images of the poster began circulating on social media websites, some Millwall fans suggested it was patronising for them to be viewed as exhibits of working-class culture. One Twitter user who appeared to be aligned to a rival south London club noted: “Recently ‘observed’ Millwall fans calling me a ‘Charlton slag’ & then punching a policeman. I want an A-Level please!” A Millwall spokesman called the claims “ridiculous” and “ludicrous” but said the club would not give a formal response. Varndean College did not respond to a request to comment. A pleasant article about Millwall fans today!
December 11, 201411 yr Funny what happens when Pellegrini actually plays two defensive mids and one up front in Europe like any other competent manager. As Souness said though it's almost like Pellegrini stumbled into that formation given that Aguero and Yaya Toure were both out.Very intrigued to see what he does in the knockout rounds when he has a fully fit squad, I feel as though he's going to have to sacrifice one of the big names in order for a more workmanlike player like Milner/Fernando. Similar situation to the one that Fergie had when he would play Rooney from the left because he knew Ronaldo wouldn't track back.
December 11, 201411 yr rhetorical question of the week: Is Raheem Sterling worth more than £70,000 per week? Seems Liverpool's woes are set to continue and even deepen, especially if they go down to United on Sunday. Even the mainstream football journalists are starting to turn on Rodgers and point out that the mythology about the club's greatness is just about all it has. Their fans are beginning to realise just how empty their hopes have really been and there is the underlying dissatisfaction about ticket prices. It's going to be fascinating to watch how FSG react.
December 11, 201411 yr I noticed on Tues evening that Sterling was indecisive when he received the ball in the area. He looks good running with or onto the ball but his decision making (or, rather, the lack of) receiving the ball, in terms of who to play in, was interesting.

True - he is far too inconsistent with his final ball, so often it's too heavy or his touch is poor. He must think someone is going to come in for him though if he's prepared to let the contract offer go by.
December 11, 201411 yr He is for Liverpool Sterling is still a work in progress and it's clear to see he's struggling with the pressure of trying to lead the entire attack on his own. If they lose Sterling though that leaves them with a crocked Sturridge as there only real attacking star left. Of course it needs to be seen how much of an effect Suarez leaving will have on Sturridge's game as well, considering now he'll truly be the main man
December 11, 201411 yr The whole seeding thing is stupid anyway, how the hell are Arsenal still in pot 1? They do nothing domestically and absolutely nothing in Europe. +1 to this. It's a complete travesty in fact. But on another topic: for the first time in the CL, with Yaya suspended, Pellegrini was forced to play 4-5-1 with 2 solid midfielders in Fernando and Fernandino, and guess what, we won comfortably. Instead of playing his normal tactic of playing with a midfield 1 and Yaya spectating, we actually had a go at competing in midfield. What a difference. Away from home with our 4 best players missing and we still won comfortably. So will Pellegrini learn from this and change his tactics for the knockout stages? Of course not, it will be back to 4-4-2 (4-3-2 for most of the time) and we'll get battered again. I pray not, but I can see it coming.

No doubt his agent has advised him that Liverpool are in a spot of bother and can be held for ransom, he's one of their few good players so they will have to pay him rather than give more money to Rodgers to find a replacement.
December 12, 201411 yr As always Brit, we have basically single handedly kept the likes of Arsenal in Europe for years by keeping the coefficient up. It's why i always say they should be thanking us rather than hating us. Maybe hating us is just their way of hiding the embarrassment of needing their rivals to keep them in the Champions League.

Who the hell are they trying to fool with all this underdogs crap anyway ? they have spent a sh*t load of money on some of the best players in the world. They have Champions League winners, World cup winners and League winners. I think it's embarrassing trying to make out that getting out of the group stages of the Champions League is like some major achievement when you look at the squad they have. One of the most embarrassing things is their constant mewling about an agenda. They seem to think the world is out to get them which is a bit like some doddery old f**ker winning the lottery and then becoming some tin-foil wearing lunatic afraid to leave the house. I think it's a mentality thing. They've always lived in United's shadow and will always be the second team in Manchester to many people. My theory is that with us, when Abramovich turned up we already had an entitled attitude so we didn't think anything about it. Our club is in the most fashionable, expensive part of the country so it just sat ok. City still have this small-club mentality which is at odds with their vast resources, and I think they have to realise that they are a big team now. They're just a big team who has to do a 2-for-1 offer on Champions League nights.
December 12, 201411 yr Ramsey's injured for Arsenal now, with all their injuries/suspensions is there a better time for Newcastle to go to the Emirates? Really feel like if they don't win that then they've really let themselves down. Also noticed that Pardew has gotten Manager of the Month. Have to say hope he does a Koeman and beats the curse.
December 12, 201411 yr Probably pulled his hammy slamming home that wonder goal the other night..... I'm sure it was worth it.
December 12, 201411 yr What the hell is it with Arsenal and their injuries? I'd be really concerned with their medical staff or the instructions the players receive with regards to stretching, warming up, warming down etc... they're breaking players before they can become great (Ramsey has the *potential* to be the Welsh Lampard IMO) wich is a shame as no player deserves to get these injuries because a club can't look after them.
