Welcome Loic Remy

Featured Replies

See Mourinho you play Remy he will score.

Trouble is he offers nothing much else, he was pretty anonymous with the exception of the goal.

He's hold up play is almost non existent and its no surprise we saw Drogba came on at the end in an effort to give us an outlet to put some relief on the defence.

Think he should play the remaining games Costa is suspended for because I think he deserves the chance but I don't think he'll ever be good enough to be a regular for us.

In fairness, Remy was pretty isolated, and even Costa has games where he really struggles with his hold up play.

Was expecting a very tough game for him, so I thought he did okay, personally. Glad he got the goal - should give Jose more confidence to start him.

Two physical centre halves today with little support from tired legs. Hopeful he 'll do better the next couople of games.

(I do seem to recall earlier in the season being pleasantly surprised at his link-up /hold-up play. Can't remember vs who...).

Remy has practically no hold up ability at all. To play him up front a change in formation is required to accommodate two up top.

As someone has already pointed out, that weakens our midfield strength. Perhaps OK for some opponents but not for others.

Drogba's all round game, the different options he gives to the team, is still way, way above Remy's.

I get what you're saying but Remy played well today and I think the only problem really was the lack of gametime he's had with the lads so they didn't know how to play to his strengths

Remy is a quality finisher, but our game relies on the big man up front to hold the ball up...definitely a good player to have as a member of the squad, but will never start regularly...but he deserves a lot of credit for the contribution he has made this season with the limited opportunity he's had

He has to be nailed on starter next week.

Despite him scoring I still think Didier could have done a better job, Remy was 0 threat in the air today and the amount of times we cleared the ball, we could have done with Drogs.

However Remy did score that's proven, Didier might not have done so coming to think of it.

Well then maybe we shouldn't play the ball in the air all the time if we don't have someone up top who's going to win it.

This is an absolute fallacy. Costa plays nothing like a big target man, he loses most headers and looks to take on the defender more than he holds it up. Compare Drogba's hold up play at his peak with Costa. I'm not criticising Costa, I'm just pointing out that I have no idea what people are seeing when they call Costa a target man. 90% of his attacking attributes revolve around his world class movement. He plays more like old Torres than Drogba. It shouldn't be used as a stick to beat Remy with.

It's unfair to judge him against Kompany and City's defense, he even got a goal despite being isolated on several occasions.

Hopefully he starts against Villa and bags a few goals.

Hasnt done for a while there mate.

Our game has been about pressing from the front and hitting teams on the break with pace, especially with Fabgregas in the team who always looks for the ball over the top first.

Remy is better at both.

I think it woud be unfair to judge him as well, considering our team was defending deep and wasn't that interessted in doing counter attacks as I hoped.

When you clear the ball, you clear it in the air not on the ground.

Not sure I take Jose at face value but if Fabregas is fit it's a big plus for us and a big plus for Remy, assuming he gets the nod tomorrow at Villa.

Remy's movement is very good, he's always looking to score and he's a tidy finisher, he also appears to have pace.

Not sure about the rest of his game but never mind.

He made good runs against Villa but was isolated and starved of service.

I would play Fabregas close to him tomorrow, in Oscar's spot, with Ramires and Matic as the midfield two.

Fabregas has that deftness, technique and vision and will find Remy.

On another note, I wonder how Remy will fit in next season.

Presumably Drogba retires, meaning we have to sign another striker.

I've seen Bamford play and he's bloody good but he will need a loan to a Premiership club next season and regular first team action.

We all know if Costa is out for any serious length of time we will miss him, badly.

Whoever comes in will know they have a fight on their hands just to get a game.

Be interesting to see who we sign, and whether that signing will put Remy's nose out of joint.

I hope I'm wrong about bamford but with drogba stating that he wants to stay next season I cant see a place for him so i really hope that Boro get promoted. As for Remy he has to take all the opportunities he gets this season and make them count.

Remy will probably play the same role next season.

Hopefully Drogba calls it a day.

Bamford needs a PL loan.

We could just buy falcao  :laugh2:

Can't see Bamford being 3rd choice next season at all, I would love for it to happen don't get me wrong but I would bet a lot of money against it.

Same i get the feeling Mourinho doesn't rate him and it was a club signing. Seems like Mourinho wants Enner Valencia.

I think we bought him because he had a low release clause and so it didn't matter how long it took to arrange Torres' loan to Milan because we knew we could get Remy last minute fairly cheap.

We can sell him in the summer for a respectful profit and sign someone younger and who Jose rates higher.
