Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Could be tso, but that still doesn't exclude him from defensive work. Fresh legs and all, he should be sprinting back to cover space there in my book.

If Jose was manager i could totally see him taking RLC right off after that, if he saw it.

As harsh a critic of RLC's potential that I am, he may been given instruction by Guus to play in an advanced position (in which case where the f**k was Mikel going?). If anyone should be criticised it's Guus for subbing Matic at a time when we looked to have the win in the bag.

Just watched it and your so right, where the hell was Mikel in that whole clip, ment to be a DM. What William did to lose the ball was criminal.

Also had a laugh at Iva, hands straight behinds his back lol.

And nobody blamed Mikel for the goal, eh?  Right.  It didn't take a huge amount of reading back to find these.

They haven't blamed him solely, just included him in the collective failings of about half the team for that goal. It's a weird point to go with to be honest. This is Ruben's thread where he's getting stick for not sprinting back, there's Thibaut's thread where he's getting stick for not punching better, then there's comments about Willian losing the ball in the worst spot etc.

Do I have to go through this again. Mikel is 1 of a number of players who got there position wrong, didn't track back or had a fault for the goal, just happens to be there was loads of faults. People question why was Mikel running to the half way line, why did Courtois punch rubbish, why RLC just walk back.

Reminded me of Pedro who also went inside then lost the ball and we conceded. Don't know which match it was.

I don't see people blaming RLC for the goal. Even if he sprinted back he wouldn't have stopped it. People are critical of his overall perceived lack of urgency, enthusiasm, and willingness to get involved. The clip of the goal was only one example. Now that he has a nice new contract that is similar to Dave and Willian's salary, and is based on future potential, it's natural to expect more. I don't think people are expecting him to turn into Ronaldo, but it's not unreasonable to expect him to play like he wants to prove his worth.

Where is RLC's "best" position?  I always thought it was back deeper in the midfield....perhaps more suited to a 4-3-3 as one just in front of the DM?

However, any cameo he seems to have made, he is playing further forward in a 4-2-3-1 as part of the attacking 3.  His style, from what I've seen, certainly doesn't warrant playing that far forward.

He's always played with a certain laid-back style so for people to expect him to come in and be a Ramires-type player is a little unfair. I can see why some might think he has a lack of urgency but the sample size most are basing him off is about 100 minutes spread over roughly five months isn't it?

We're not talking about someone who has been given consistent minutes here. As usual we aren't putting Academy products in a position to succeed.

This is more a theoretical question not specific to any particular player.

What is the difference between "laid back" versus lazy, apathetic, lacking passion, burnt out, etc?

What makes you conclude that a player is one versus the other? As we can't read a player's mind, we make our conclusions purely from what is publicly displayed.

I could be wrong and I'm not complaining as we got the point but it looked like a dive from RLC there to win that penalty. I didn't see any contact at all.

Not something I like to see normally but given how dire we were I'm glad someone was willing to do whatever it takes.

To be honest, I think he tripped over himself. So not a deliberate dive, which matters in the end.

He clipped the back of his own leg, it definitely wasn't a dive. I don't know if the West Ham player caught him first which forced Loftus-Cheek to trip himself over though.

Came on here to say the same thing...can we please now see Ruben start games rather than that waste of space? Depressed me when I realised West Ham paid less than half Oscar's transfer fee for Payet, who has made more of an impact in one season in the PL than Oscar has in four

I have now joined you I'm the camp. Time to move him on for me, has actually got worse. But what ever, he does nothing particularly well and if he was English he'd have been moved on along time ago

Having just watched match of the day there was definitely quite substantial contact, so we don't have to worry about him being a diver.

Fair enough.

Either way, he showed great determination to grab the win.

Good job boy! Next game he has to start ahead of Oscar. He did more than Oscar in 5 minutes.

No he didn't, he did almost exactly the same. The run for the penalty was identical to Oscars run for the free kick fabregas scored from. Oscar had a couple of excellent chances, so did rlc. By all means praise rlc but doing it by making out he was amazingly better than oscar is wrong .

RLC won a penalty for us and had one shot.

What did Oscar do in that game apart from losing the ball that led to the second goal?

I think the bar is different DKW and rightly so. Oscar cost a lot of money nearlly 4 years ago now. A player in his position would be stamping his authority on to games, not every game but it should be happening, and he's just not doing it. For the most part yesterday i felt play more often then not came to an end or slowed significantly when he got the ball. Rubens came on and looked to drive us forward at pace. Lost the ball once or twice but again, we are talking about a 19 year old who is finding his feet in one of the best teams in europe, so he deserves a little slack.

I think the general feeling is now that we would rather see Oscar's min's  got to RLC who can use them to develop, especially this season.

This is not like Matic who you can quite clearly see is no where near his form of the last 1.5 years and for all of mikel's good form he's in no way the same monster and in form Matic is or Hazard who dominated all last season. With oscar you have a whole in the team where you occasionally saw glimpses of brilliance but all to fleeing, his best run probably being the beginning of Jose's second stint. At some point in peoples mind's he not only becomes a player who just doesn't cut it on match day but now one that is directly hindering the progress of a youth product and a hope. Yes thats on the manager as well but its the reason people are making the the comparisions.

I understand that barak, and agree in the main. I just find it odd to see people having to slag of Oscar to praise rlc when they basically did the same thing.

I understand what you mean, but I think people are sick of seeing Oscar doing it week in and week out, RLC never gets a proper chance. We are definitely in the category of doing the same thing over and over hoping eventually it will work out.
