Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Not gonna happen (on any significant scale) until we also have nine first team players out injured.

If we get about 10 injuries like United have then i'm sure we will. It's not like Van Gaal was playing all of these youngsters because he wanted to, he did it because he had to.

I do think we should be giving youngsters more of a chance though. Loftus-Cheek, Kenedy and Traore are the main ones that come to mind.

All of the youth players this season have largely some promise and enough to warrant more minutes- RLC, Kenedy, Traore and Baba.

Let them play.

Glad he has shown patience in signing a 5 year deal.

He has to keep improving when he plays this season, and then impress conte enough to get a place in the squad for next.

It's really going to up to him now to prove he is going to be a top international footballer, in order for him cement his place in the squad long term.

He's been pretty good so far, but I don't think he has shown much improvement from the back end of last season. Still he's young there is plenty of time for him to fulfill his potential.

He played once a month for the first five months of the season, until he was gifted with two appearances in January and he scored in one of those.

In February he appeared once, for the last 10 minutes against Newcastle.

In total he's played 75 minutes in the league this season which is about one-third of the minutes Falcao has played despite being injured for most of the season.

I'm not sure he's been given enough chances to show just how he compared to last season, and this is one of the most promising players in our academy.

Dele Alli on the other hand has played 1842 minutes and will go to the European Championships with England despite being younger.

So I'm happy for the club getting him to sign a new contract but if I was a family member, a friend, an England supporter or someone completely unconnected with Chelsea Football Club who had a passing interest in young people making the most of their talents, I'd have probably suggested he not.

I agree he shouldve played more, but he hasn't yet matched the standard he set in the liverpool game year, in any appearance he's made this season.

Ali had already played nearly 100 senior games before this season. So he may be younger, but he is vastly more experienced and ready to cope with playing week in, week out in premier league. He us also playing for manager who is very proactive at trustIng young players, and he is playing for a team, who would consider top 7 acceptable season.

Mourinho doesn't like to rely on young players too much, and I can understand why he kept faith with senior players to turn things around, as this was group that had already proven they could be the best in the league, and he was trying save our season.

Hiddink comes in, probably doesn't even know loftus cheek, but he also stocks with players he knows have the quality to push up in the table, he got the response he wanted and as we have started to improve we are seeing more and more of the youngsters.

It's been a tough season for every player at the club. There's still plenty to play for in the league, and we need our best players in form for the cup competitions.

We don't seem to have a system for helping young players make the step up from youth team player to first team player.

Maybe it would the youngster to spend at least 6 months out on loan at a level they will play regularly, just so they have the opportunity to get used to senior football.

Loftus-Cheek wasn't that amazing against Liverpool. He was solid, good even, and that's what he's been for much of this season but he's played ONCE a month. That's not enough for a player to build consistency, let alone a young one. You're right about Alli's experience though.

Again, this is all about the immediate success with no thought to the long-term and that's what is going to send Ruben's career the same way as Josh's or Nat Chalobah's. You're right that there's no help for young players to make the step-up but there's also a lot of people willing to excuse the club because they are focussed on the trophies still to play for (one of which I'm sorry to say we aren't going to win).

Yet whilst they're focussed on that they're completely ignoring the fact that they're letting a part of this club's soul slip away as we become just another club featuring players who stay for a few years, collect a few paycheques and leave.

Frank's hinted at that in the press, that we're lacking 'real personalities' and losing a bit of the 'spirit' we once had.

That's why we won in 2012 and it's exactly why we're not going to win in 2016, but if we start building now by trusting players like Ruben then we might have it again one day.

We don't have the big leaders in the squad that we used to. But that doesn't mean we can't buy players to come in and lead us forward. I mean looking back at the last 12 years under abramovic, and there is only terry that has come from our acedemy. All the other big leaders in the dressing room were bought.

We have an exciting crop coming through and if 1 or 2 make it that would be absolutely fantastic, and it certainly help with the homegrown quota. I'm yet to be convinced by rlc though, but it's early days and I think patience is key at the moment.

Frank was here before Lamps but here's the truly worrying thing - of Cech, Cole, Lamps, Drogba and Terry (the core of that great team), Ashley Cole was the last one brought to the club and that was in 2006. That to me is the foundation on which our great teams were built and it lasted right through until 2012.

But we've not rejuvenated that group, we've not added to it and we seem to have actively moved away from those big mean personalities who were so horrible to poor little AVB.

The other worrying thing is that we've had 'exciting crops' coming through for about half a decade now. In 2010-11 Nat Chalobah, Tomas Kalas and Josh McEachran went toe-to-toe with a United side featuring Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard. Chalobah was outstanding that day and this season he's played FOURTEEN minutes for Napoli in Serie A.

Nothing's changed since.

We haven't developed new leaders.

We haven't bought new leaders.

Does Roman want new leaders?

Great signing, but changed my tune on him recently. He needs to improve his tracking back/defensive work and do more offensively too if he's going to be a top player. His stamina is another issue that only he can improve on. If he doesn't improve himself then can't see him making it here. Hopefully he has that self motivation and improvement attitude.

Good that he's tied down but he really needs to be given games now.

If he cant play in our remaining domestic fixtures I don't see how he can play when we start a fresh next season. The time has to be now as the league is done and dusted.

How can you come to this opinion of him ? we have barely seen the guy play for the first team. He has played 8 games this season..........that's right, 8. 3 of those games have been as a late second half sub. He has only played 3 games from start to finish and the one Premier League game that he was the best player in, he ended up being subbed at half time. In a season where the players haven't performed, he has deserved to appear more than he has so far. I thought with Ramires leaving he would get a few more appearances, but he still isn't being trusted enough. How can he prove himself without actually getting a chance to play ?

We often forget that players train, and managers lead and see them during that training. I assume that managers always play with those players they think will do best based on how they train (and on how they have been performing in games), so maybe RLC needs to train a bit better for the manager to play him regularly. I also assume that managers want to see youngsters exceed the first choice players regularly in their training before they choose to play them as first choice. I agree, though, that it would be good if Guus gave RLC more minutes, but we can only speculate on why he is not getting more minutes unless we go to Cobham.

If he was not giving his all on the training pitch I doubt we would be giving him a 5 year deal.

Not necessarily. It gives us more leverage if we want to sell him than letting him go for free. He might not make it to the squad (hope he does) but we can make a profit by selling him if it comes to that.
