Ruben Loftus-Cheek

I agee, Oscar has had more than enough chances and minutes on the pitch and he just isn't doing enough to justify selection, and hasn't been for as long as I can remember. Their second goal all came from Oscar carelessly losing the ball, yet again.

RLC and Traore and Kenedy have all shown enough to get a run of games.

I agree with this, except for the ALL. There were plenty of other failings that were equally to blame. We were being exposed on the break all game. Yes, Oscar was careless, but when you are 75 yards from goal you can be expected to lose possession quite a few times during a game. It's the job of the defensive midfielders and defence to give you the solidity and organisation to allow the attacking players to make the odd error without conceding a goal as a result.

Noone would dispute that Oscar has not developed as we hoped. José identified him in his first few games back as the player to take the 'no 10' role, but he just hasn't made the position his own, and looks very ordinary most games. I know that's true of almost the entire squad this season, but Oscar wasn't that great last year either. He had a great game in the first home match after José was sacked, but he has been pretty poor since.

Still, maybe Conte will get more out of him.

Happy for him and I hope he gets many more minutes next season and proves to be good in that postition. Our pundits need to stop overhyping our young players though, Hoddle comparing him to Ballack, old red nose saying Alli is the best British player since Gazza, so already better than Lampard and Gerrard, utter nonsense, wouldn't even say Gazza was as good as those two, what's next? Rashford the new Zidane, Chris Smalling the new Titus Bramble? Anyway, happy for Rubén, would love to see others given a chance next season though, instead of these constant loans.

He is officially better than Oscar.

Hard to say without seeing him more. Don't have enough data points to evaluate consistency over a meaningful span of consecutive games. I hope we'll get to find out.

This is the first game I've been really impressed with him. He's been decent this season, making few mistakes and playing solidly when's had a chance, but this was the first time I have seen him take a game by the scruff of its neck, really dominating the midfield. Well done to him.

Not really, I am sure either of you playing for us would be better than Oscar.

Ruben asked to be subbed out, but Guus made him play the full 90 in order to improve his stamina.

Great job by Guus handling this situation. I can see other managers react by shouting at the player for lacking passion, and as punishment confining them to the bench. Guus acted in a much more productive way.

Uncle Guus does have some experience in coaching - He is a proper coach - as a Yank, I am happy as hell that Young Matt Miazga is getting some time under Uncle Guus & most fans of the USNMT are thinking the same thing

Looking forward to how Jurgen handles having a Chelseq regular in his camp

the spud legend will have a hard time - young Matt might get the Omar Gonzalez treatment

Strange him asking to be subbed.

You would think he'd want to stay out there as long as he could to improve his chances. He's a young guy so surely it's not fitness/stamina related.

I think he's been known to have quite low stamina, he's a big lad so it must be hard lugging that frame around the pitch for 90 minutes, hopefully the more he trains and plays the more his stamina will improve

I can't see where it says he asked to get subbed off. It says he had cramp and was used to coming off after an hour doesn't it?

"Loftus-Cheek asked to be replaced late in the match, but Hiddink decided differently as he wanted the midfielder to complete a league game for the first time in his career."

Maybe this is a stupid question. Why haven't the fitness coaches worked more on his stamina? More hours in the gym, more interval training on grass, etc.

Costa got a lot of justified criticism for being unfit earlier in the season, but he could still play 90.
