Raheem Sterling to Chelsea

Featured Replies

He shines in the Liverpool side, but honestly anywhere else I can't see it, especially in our team were teams sit back against us a lot, he will be very ineffective I think.

Also an overrated player, I don't like his end product, which is why I was astonished when he actually scored against us, that's very unlucky on our part, most times he would have kicked it right at the keeper.

I'd have him for about what we're getting for Schurrle (around 23 mil?).

Any more than that is too much of a gamble.

Ryan Starling is ok, but I don't think he'll get much better than he currently is. Just another young English player who breaks onto the scene, moves to a big club, then fades out.

Good player, not good enough to displace any of our attacking 3 mids.  ...

Maybe but I'd prefer him over any of the other possible targets. If we could actually get him we'd be insane if we didn't try.

He is not the finished product, but imagine him and Hazard in one line-up. We would have one of the strongest teams in the next 7-8 years.

Quite frankly i don't understand why people wouldn't want him and maybe hatred for Liverpool is clouding their judgement.

1.  There is no winger in the world under 23 currently better than Sterling apart from maybe Isco, although hes more of an interior player.

2.  Would he start?  I don't know.  My opinion is that in the last 18 months he's played better than Oscar and Willian.  If he doesn't start, so what, he would be amazing off the bench.

3. His trajectory leads me to believe that in five years time he'll probably be one of the best five wingers in the world and would be a nailed on starter for Chelsea.

I will absolutely trust my own eyes over the opinion of any dipper fan. And I cannot quite understand how anyone can fail to see the incredible talent that he has for a 20 year old. And he's not your Barkley or Wilshere who shows promise from time to time and then disappears. He's been backing it up with stats ever since he started playing. I have no doubts in my mind that he'll turn out to be one of the best in the world and I'd rather he end up playing for us than City or United, because he's going to be too good to remain with the dippers.

I don't necessarily want us to sign him but Sterling is definitely not your very fast but terrible crossing, giving the ball away 30 times a game, occasional jinking run into nowhere, straight off the conveyor belt England winger (e.g. Wright-Phillips, Walcott,  Lennon, Townsend, Sinclair, Young, etc...)

He has already shown over the past two years or so that his maturity: his decision-making, passing and movement are all streets ahead of all of the players mentioned above, plus he seemingly has the work rate and the ambition to improve even further. Not to mention the fact that he is in essence single-handedly carrying Liverpool's attack following the departure of their best striker in a decade, and also shoved in out of position because the £20m Italian international they signed in the summer turned out to be a total wasteman. He is clearly a top-quality player and the sooner he isn't playing for Liverpool the better.

Plokkers, you and me are usually on the same page about most things, so I am deeply shocked.  Any road up, make a note, both of you.  If, in 5 years time, Sterling is being recognised as "world class" like you seem to think he will be, I'll stump up for a trip to the Bridge for both of you, on me.  That's how confident I am :)

or ... or ... or... and this is a bit novel, a bit out there, a little bit crazy a little bit weyyyee....

We could try and develop Boga?? any one? for less then 100% of the price? any one?

IMO sterling at chelsea would not have developed in to what he is now. I rate him, not as highly as some of the media but think he's decent. He got that way by liverpool showing faith in him and developping him..

We have 2 players in the same Ilk as Sterling, boga and T.Hazard, both have talent and both will only progress if given the right opportunity.

By the way, Harry Kane was apparently pretty unimpressive when on loan, some times a loan is not indicative of a players ability.

We have just brought a winger and got rid of two, that leaves us 1 short in Jose's books and I hope we don't go spending money now, we have the quality to alow for hte youth to come through

I agree with developing our own talent but Boga is more of a number 10 (closer to Barkley) as is Hazard.

The closest player to Sterling in pretty much every regard is Musonda. Small, pacy, tricky little winger who is mightily impressive. Not saying any of these players will definitely be as good as Sterling but is it worth betting £50 million that one of them won't be, for a player where we actually have pretty decent cover for the foreseeable future?

And if someone starts a thread about Kane, can every response just be Bamford?

I've bookmarked this post yorkley. I wouldn't mind losing this bet if he's still with Liverpool in 5 years time. But I would obviously love to go the Bridge, and also meet PloKoon who seems like a really smart guy with good judgement of players abilities.

It was very difficult to do but I brought my self to like the post

Haha I'll happily take you up on that one mate! And if he signs for City for stupid money, plays 200 minutes of football in three seasons before winding up on loan at Swansea or QPR I will owe you both a good few rounds!

looks like he doesn't want to accept Liverpool's incredible offer - I reckon the guy is holding out for what he hopes will be a summer auction for his services. I can't see him at Chelsea but United or City might pick him up.  If he does leave Liverpool it will be a further blow to their hopes, lovely.

cos Liverpool are sh*t and he probably believes the media's w**king over him that Real madrid will offer him a deal.

Im struggling to understand why would he want to leave?.

Probably because he doesn't want to be carrying a team that has little chance of winning major trophies whilst playing out of position to compensate for the consistent absence through injuries to the only other potentially world class player in their squad (Sturridge). Maybe he's ambitious and wants to play with the best, and doesn't want to be burned out at a young age like some of the other Liverpool "saviours" that have come along every now and then.

Or perhaps his agent thinks Sterling's stock is higher than it's ever going to be, and since Liverpool need Sterling a lot more than he needs them, this puts him (the agent) in a position to dictate terms and get a ridiculous raise for his client, in Liverpool or elsewhere.

Any else find it strange that Rodgers has spoken so openly about the terms of the contract on offer to Sterling?

Do you think that he is trying to put pressure on him to sign the deal but basically telling the Liverpool fans that the offer is considered "incredible" by the club?

A few places have reported that the initial deal on offer was £70k per week which roughly doubled his current deal.

Glenn Johnson steals a living earning £110k a week and Gerrard's deal is roughly £150k a week.

For context apparently Harry Kane's new deal with Spurs is worth around £40k a week.

Seems entirely appropriate for the new Michael Owen Jermain Defoe Darren Bent.

Can this please become a thing? It pains me to give Tottenham youngsters any credit whatsoever, especially when they have hair and gormless expressions as irritating as Kane's.

Nothing Brendan Rogers says surprises me, he's a very strange man.

Sterling is one of Liverpool's best players and has been for a while so if I was him I would expect to be on a level with the top earners at my club as well. When comparing Sterling's offer to Kane's new deal it's important to note that Sterling has been an important player for Liverpool for two and a half seasons whereas Kane is only just emerging. Also they play for different clubs with very different budgets and wage structures.
