March 26, 201610 yr Well, at least England are playing better football and winning against bigger teams again. We have beaten France and now Germany i recent games. It may be just a friendly, but it's still good to see some progress from England. I don't see how Rooney can get back in, we are much better without him. Same goes for Wilshere and Walcott.
March 26, 201610 yr Superb display, enthusiastic and energetic. So different to the usual sh*t, these young uns have to play in the Euro's. Swap Henderson for....well anyone. Drop Cahill too, dreadful again.
March 26, 201610 yr Nice to have players we can get excited about playing for national side. Great performance well deserved victory.
March 26, 201610 yr Very much like England to play this well in a meaningless game as soon as the tournament starts we will be back to useless England.

Drop Cahill too, dreadful again. Drinkwater needs to come in, not sure who else is better than cahill, stones can't even get in the everton side and I don't think there's much between jagielka and cahill.

March 26, 201610 yr I would go with this for the Euro's Hart Walker Smalling Cahill Rose Dier Barkley Alli Ster/Stur Kane Vardy Edited March 26, 201610 yr by Scott Harris
March 26, 201610 yr I'd go for.... Hart Walker Cahill Smalling Bertrand Dier Drinkwater Sterling Alli Vardy Kane Not sure what formation would get the best out of these players while maintaining balance but going 442 with Vardy and Kane up front would leave us too vulnerable IMO I like the sound of Dier, Alli and Barkley in midfield but again i feel it would leave us too vulnerable. Maybe shuffle Barkley onto the right instead of an in and out of form sterling and let the three behind Kane swap ala Mata, Oscar and Hazard Rooney should go IMO but strictly as back up. getting the best out of Kane should be the focus.but I fully expect Roy to bottle it and start with the likes of Rooney, Milner, Wilshere, Barry, Jagielka, Baines etc
March 27, 201610 yr That's the best performance I've seen from England in over a decade. We've played such turgid football at times which has really put me off international football, but this is such a promising team. Edited March 27, 201610 yr by RichardCFC

Drop Cahill too, dreadful again. Drop Cahill for who? Agree he's not the best but stones? Not even been playing for Everton lately...Jagielka? Just a sh*t Cahill...err...who else is there? Think that's why we have to temper our optimism...yes we have exciting talent to choose from high up the pitch, but we have fcuk all at the back
March 27, 201610 yr Turn my nose up at England with some envy seeing that we don't have many playing as a result of not giving youth a chance. This is how our club create an identity. Blooding English youth and seeing some of them develop. You don't create an identity by backing an arrogant Portuguese allergic to blooding youth *sigh*
March 27, 201610 yr Turn my nose up at England with some envy seeing that we don't have many playing as a result of not giving youth a chance. Yeah that's the ONLY reason. If we just played them constantly no matter the cost they'd suddenly become world class. Edited March 27, 201610 yr by Stim
March 27, 201610 yr Bad news for Leicester, seems like Schmeichel got injured in Denmark training. He tweeted that him leaving training after the incident was just precaution. Phew!
March 27, 201610 yr Piers Morgan ?@piersmorgan 55m55 minutes ago I've been told on very good authority that Wenger's been offered a new 3-yr contract by Arsenal. If true, utterly outrageous. #afc Piers Morgan ?@piersmorgan 30m30 minutes ago 'It's on his desk. New 3-yr deal.' What I was told last night about Wenger's offer from Arsenal/Kroenke. Shocking. #afc Oh dear, rewarding mediocrity. So long as he gets 4th and CL qualification then the money keeps coming in.

March 27, 201610 yr My old neighbour was telling me yesterday how she had lost a £50 bet cause she bet that Arsenal would beat Barcelona, the other bet she's on the verge of losing is £30 bet that Arsenal will win the title

Champions League money every year, spending below budget. For owners and chairmen, this is a business, and you can't fault them for treating it first and foremost like a business. Suppose there is the following choice. Option 1: Guaranteed 4th place, spends well below budget. Option 2: 50% probability of winning league, 50% probability of not qualifying for European football; spends at upper budget limit. Fans might want Option 2, but I think the majority of owners prefer Option 1. It's easy to say you're willing to sacrifice funds in exchange for the chance to win the league, when it doesn't involve the majority of your financial assets.

You make it sound like Wenger is operating on a shoestring budget and should be applauded for finishing in the top four every year. He's got enough money and quality players to be expected to win the odd league championship. He should be doing so much better in terms of results.

What I'm saying is that from a business perspective it's not difficult to see why they gave him a new contract. He basically has guaranteed CL money while spending below budget. If they get someone new they risk not getting that, so Wenger is the safer choice financially.

Piers obviously isn't talking about it from the perspective of the owners, and looking at it as a fan. There was also a rumour that Guordiola wanted to go to Arsenal, with Thiery Henry as his assistant. That would of been the Arsenal fans dream. But apparently the executives wanted to stay loyal to Wenger. Somewhat doubt the rumour -- but you never know. And if it is true, then what a silly decision haha. Edited March 28, 201610 yr by Saru

For a club with that fanbase and those resources it is a clear indication of lack of ambition. 'Lets just settle for the safe 4th place option' Meh.

While charging the highest ticket prices in world football. I can't believe how many of their fans are happy to bend over and be shafted while backing Wenger to 4th place every season.
