MissouriBlue
As we are still in the window I've been thinking a lot about the players we've been linked with over the years and missed out on. With that in mind give me some of the best you can remember, ones that make you laugh in retrospect, etc. One that always sticks in my mind is when we were apparently close on the heels of Robinho. I remember being really disappointed at the time. Looking back I laugh now, we dodged a bullet it seems. Anyone else?
Theafonis
Pirlo in 2009, he was pretty much ready to move and agreed to join Carlo but Galliani turned his head by begging him to stay. Neymar and Modric in 2011. We were so close to signing Neymar for big money but I believe his father turned us down, and Pele was acting as a medium the entire time. We bid 40 mil for Modric but Levy wouldn't budge. It would have been incredible from the club if they had managed to sign these two. I think in the end we signed Meireles as a plan B. icecoolguy22
The Kun, I thought we had the deal all done the season before, then somehow he showed up at City I thought we were in for Silva too, let that one slipped too
Bobbywoodhogan
Yeah Robinho always sticks in the mind although that one was a blessing
AndyBlue82
Got to be Aguero, I remember watch Atletico play is at the bridge years ago and thinking "wow, I can't believe we're linked with this guy he's gonna be awesome!!"" Turns out he was..... For city

ducavis
Roman & Jose went to watch Tevez back in Argentina, always felt he would end up here along with Mascherano and we were just parking them at West Ham.
big blue
Tbh I honest I think things may have turned out differently for robinho if he ended up here. He was very good in his first season, but I don't think he ever really wanted that city move, and I think he would have excelled with that particular group of players, where he would have had lamps, jt, Ballack, and drogba in his ear, keeping him in the right path. Aguero and neymar are the 2 that I'm most disappointed we didn't sign, for obvious reasons.
chickenfluff
Totally agree with robinho. Didn't he even turn up at his press conference with city and announced he was pleased to have signed with chelsea? Our senior players would have made him fit right in. Its a shame because he has achieved next to nothing in football and has become a drifter really. 31 and hes now playing in china, what a waste of talent. Scott Harris
I thought we could have got Aguero long before City got him. I thought for sure that we were going to get him but we seemed to keep hesitating and we eventually went and got Torres.........that worked out well. I think Roman intentionally wanted Torres over Agüero. Ohhhh how things could have been sooooo different. Imagine we had got Pirlo and Agüero instead of Benayoun and Torres. LolI dont think that was true, I remember at the time we were linked to aguero his wage demands were astronomical, something like £100k more than our top earners. Plus the problem was our top earners had clauses to match any higher earner.

Those matching clauses really are short sighted although I guess that's the only way you will get some players to sign on the dotted line.
enigma
Suarez. He wasn't linked? Well he flecking should have been. To think we wasted 50 million on torres while Liverpool went ans bought suarez.
