Ivanovic was so bad last season I would have still gambled on Baba TBH.

Agreed. I believe Ivanovic's standing with the owner put him as an undroppable

I still can't believe that we have Mikel at the club. I mean, what's he doing here? I don't have a problem with Mikel but he's not playing. We should have sold him in the summer.

Its situations like that why the squad has gone stale.

That just sounds like tabloid conspiracy.

He was 'undroppable' because his backup option was sh*te or none existent. And Felipe Luis was here was Ivanovic wasn't performing poorly.

Ivanovic displayed poor form in the latter half of the 2014-15 season yet he was still an ever present.  Also, Baba at left back would still be a better option than Ivanovic at RB.

Someone else beat me to it but Luis was an inferior option? Lol

Yes because Luis was at the club at the time of question.

Apart from Hazard and Courtois, the whole squad was off form, performance wise.

Ivanovic wasn't fantastic during our title winning season either. He was clearly worse at RB than Luis at LB, Mourinho just liked him for tactical reasons. Lets not forget that we also let Bertrand go. Mourinho messed up our fullback situation because he liked having Ivanovic's steel in the side.

I hear this every week, about Mourinho screwing up one thing or another, be it KDB, Lukaku, Mata, now the fullback situation.

The manager's job is to win, and he did that handily, and when that happened I didn't hear any of the whining that I do now. It's only now, after the fact, that people want to play revisionist history and blame all of our problems on Mourinho.

It should be quite obvious at this point with the longer sample size that Mourinho got more out of this side that it should have delivered, as the majority of the same players have turned in the same/worse form for two different managers now not named Jose Mourinho.

If anyone deserves the majority of blame regarding personnel decisions, look at the technical director and the board members, none of whom have changed in recent seasons while a variety of managers with different styles and preferences have inhabited the managerial (now first team head coach) role. They are the stewards that should be looking after the long-term future of the club - does anyone seriously rate them doing so?

Finally a manager who dares to drop Ivanovic, got to give Conte some credit for that. Work in progress, I think the International break will actually help Conte with JT/Zouma getting fit and adjusting to the new system.

Just like what Colin Kaepernick said the other day to the media, 'Choosing the Lesser of Two Evils' - of course he was crucified for that statement
