That chance in the 2nd half when Fabrgas put him through, he's got to be scoring them.

Yeah, he has really missed a lot of good chances here. When he was 1 on 1 with the goalkeeper I was never confident he was scoring that because I've seen him miss a lot of those chances before, Costa, however, was a lot sharper in front of goal.

I must admit it was a good save from Oblak, he extended himself very quickly and it surprised Morata but he has to be aware of that, he has plenty of time to round & lob the keeper he has to utilise that better, putting it on the floor makes it easier for the keeper.

Needless to say, he needs to be more clinical. However, he was a bit part player last season, so it will take time for him to play consistently well over 50 games. one thing he's been doing well and getting better is winning headers, seems to be able to beat defenders easily for those high floating balls. I reckon it's only a matter of time he's heading them down int the corners rather than straight at the GK like the last few games.

To be honest, Morata's got the hard part down, scoring difficult goals with his head and getting in the right positions with his pace. He just needs practice and time.
He's not exactly a Torres like a few people were saying, that's for sure.

He might be one of those players that technically are very good yet when they have the time to shoot, or take a penalty they think about it too long and don't deliver.

It's one of the things I recall that let Joe Cole down, he could score some great goals yet never the simple ones.

I was actually wondering about that. When he has to just react he pulls out some incredible stuff, but with time to think he seems a bit less effective.

if he's injured, this tells us three things :

1- the club needs to stop selling 90 % of its youth AND key players to rivals

2- we don't have a choice but to MASSIVELY rotate our team every three games*

3- we need money to keep the aforementioned players and youth

*: this means we need to preserve for UCL games and more or less give up PL title aspirations ... For this year only considering this season's circumstances! Also, IMO, having won 2 of the last three PL, I would not mind just sticking to a top 4 finish and going far in the UCL (Semis at least) that will enale us to "allure" new great players easily rather than sticking to try winning PL title (we're 11 points adrift so the title is pretty much lost + FA has decided it to be a battle of the mancs...) and facing an early exit in the UCL (R16 or QF if the R16 was against Besiktas).

Don't get me wrong, PL is great to win obviously, but considering our squad depth, the fact we've won it a lot in recent years and that it didnt really helped us to progress and develop that much, we need to focus all of our efforts on the UCL and rotate half the squad every three games when we face dross. Ideally, winning both the PL and the UCL will be fantastic! But we need luck in terms of injury and also in terms of "football events" (i.e refs). Which is unlikely in the PL this season. Aiming for a top 4 finish is easily doable. Plus, it will give some well deserved rest to our key players who will be in optimal form in the UCL where we'll need to make a huge impact. We're the reigning champions of England, we won it with 30 wins, 93 points and 13 wins in a row... I have enough of us getting eliminated by PSG in the R16!! I want a great UCL campaign!! We can do it!! We have the experience, players, mental strength and also I believe talent to do it!! Plus, that's the only way we'll be able to keep Hazard and not see him go to RM.

Also, one may say that the problem of our squad depth is due to bad decisions from the board... I have to say the board will carry on to f**k up until someone competent has the job!! but there's one thing the board won't f**k up : bringing talented players who are interested in joining us because we reached the semis of the UCL and are fit to fight for the title both in the PL and the UCL! What I mean is the following: us going far in the UCL will minize the incompetence of the board insofar as it will be easier for them to bring great players because they'll want to join us as we're the english team that went the farthest in the UCL!

I think we should not undermine that!! Trust me, apart from england and the UK, winning or going far in the UCL for foreign players playing in continental europe is far more important than regularly winning the PL... Also, we'll make good money by combining the top 4 finish and great UCL run, which seems doable if we do the correct things (rotate etc...). Again, winning both will get us the jackpot!! But we'll need a good amount of luck for that...

Money well spent but the salah deal stills irks me given we sold him  last season.
If we had both we would be ahead of City

The sale was arranged in his original loan to Roma in 2015

Simply must do better.

Would drop him for Huddersfield to give him a kick up the arse and if Bats takes his chance keep him on the bench.

Technically we have a very good player on our hands. My biggest fear when we were first linked with him was could he do the business when he is the main man as opposed to the backup he has been throughout his career. He is young and a second season will decide if we have spent our money wisely, it would help if Bats could put pressure for his place in the starting eleven. Needs to stay on his feet more, his insistence on going to ground at every opportunity is not helping his cause with the referees.

Shocking today diving all over the place, missed another sitter & looks very tired. Would start Bats in the next game.

His failure to score with his feet is annoying, but his diving is worse. He goes over at the slightest contact. Just stay on your feet ffs.

I agree. Batshuayi isn't perfect himself, but there is one thing i am sure of, he would have taken that chance today and maybe the one against Atletico Madrid too. He's definitely more clinical than Morata in my opinion, but Morata's all round game is better.

There is one thing that has been bugging me about Morata of late ( apart from him not taking his chances that is ) and it's that he doesn't really give it his all in every game. Now this could be because he played in La Liga for Real Madrid, a team that only has to turn up against the bottom teams of their league to win a game, but it's definitely something about his game i don't like. Some games he looks fired up, some games he looks like he is just going through the motions, i hate seeing that in strikers.

He's a frustrating player, one game he look's class and then the next game he look's average.

A lot of people have singled out Batshuayi for a lot of criticism in his time with us, but i don't think there is a massive gulf in ability between him and Morata. They both have their positives and negatives.

Morata is better in every aspect of his game except for finishing than Batshuayi. A game like today we could have done with Batshuayi to float in the box and hopefully pick something up. Drop Morata next game and hope it gives him a kick up the backside.

Batshuayi is nowhere near as good a player as Morata. There IS a massive gulf in quality between them.

With Michy, I'd settle for that tbh, needs to work on some things, but he can actually shoot.

Morata has a better all round game, but I'd take Michy in a one on one situation.

When they are both playing at their best, then yes i think there is a big difference, but i don't think we see enough of it from Morata. If he becomes more consistent, then i will say there is a big difference between them.
